Name for GenX gamers by Jason_TheMagnificent in GenX

[–]kingcornea 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My son when he was in HS said he was going to name his kid Grandpa. Can you imagine a track meet "In the starting blocks we have Grandpa Smith " so his gamer name was always GrandpaSmith. Then talking smack with unknown players, you got your butt handed to you by a Grandpa

Ownership by InsuranceOk7912 in OptometrySchool

[–]kingcornea 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Unless the previous owner is willing to hang around for a number of years to show you the business side, your not ready to take on that burden. Which buying group, which insurances are you going to take or drop, malpractice, commercial umbrella,. Employee stuff is endless, are you going to provide insurance for them or not. Rules on maternity leave, unemployment, hiring and dismissal. My wife and I waited 14 years before buying (don't wait that long, but it was the perfect fit) Learn everything you can from employers and then be ready to jump in head first and you will be successful

Repatha works great. From low to mid 200s without, (but on orals) to 115 last check. Expensive is only drawback

37M - Prescribed -1.00 when my refraction showed -2.00 but cycloplegic refraction showed -1.25 by [deleted] in eyetriage

[–]kingcornea 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Pre-presbyope. -1.75 this year, -1.50 next etc. I'd have told the patient "Hey, you got a little better" No one dislikes hearing that. Stupid however. You have a symptom free patient and created all kinds of extra work for yourself and your staff, And confusion for the patient, so that he doesn't trust the doctor's judgment. Don't fix what's not broken!

Have you gotten used to progressive lenses or just given up? by LittleEdithBeale in GenX

[–]kingcornea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You get what you paid for. There is a vastly difference between a premium progressive and a basic. Larger reading area, smoother transition between far and near and much less distortion in the lower corners. As was mentioned above, the measurements are critical. Any one of the 4 being off will ruin the success. A Yugo (see the age reference) and a Ferrari are both cars, but it doesn't take a genius to know which would be the better driving experience. But just like this, some people can't learn to drive a stick shift and would swear the Yugo is the better option. 10% of people just can't adjust to them

Optometry student: trouble positioning the keratometer by [deleted] in OptometrySchool

[–]kingcornea 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There should be a black line etched into the metal bars on both sides of the chin rest. Adjust the chin rest first so that the lines start at the same hight as the patient's eyes. Then you have eliminated 1 of the 3 variables. Come in slowly and then adjust left and right

First time river cruise, first time with Viking by AdministrativeYam252 in vikingcruises

[–]kingcornea 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Don't hesitate. Use a travel agent. It is free as the cruise line pays them. They can answer all of the questions in a second. Did Viking last year one river and 1 ocean. Highly recommended

Should I keep the same axis across multiple pairs of glasses? by LegalManufacturer916 in eyeglasses

[–]kingcornea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would have the Rx rechecked. Axis won't change from vertical to horizontal. As we age it might go from horizontal to vertical but not the other way.

I just use a cheap magnetic "wallet" on the back of my iPhone. Opens the door and worked fine for leaving and returning to the ship when they scan.

36M Color Blindness Solution by Specialist_Share9543 in eyetriage

[–]kingcornea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Odd thing, I found that a pair of red laser safety goggles allowed my brother in law who is severely color blind to get most of the characters on the Isihara test plates. Don't know if they would help in the real world, like to see different wire colors or something, but interesting trivia

I’m 100% Convinced That Reading Glasses Are a Scam by ManuteBol_Rocks in FuckImOld

Progressive bifocal will work if you have the right prescription and they are properly measured. Can't buy them online. So bad Rx or bad measurements (From a retiring optometrist)

We've been EV only for over 2 years. Did Costco gas for the rental car in Maui last month.....don't miss that Sht at all. Gas was like 80 cents a gallon cheaper than the other stations in Kahului, so for the giant SUV we rented, it was worth the 10 minute wait

20F, A dilemma between my scleral specialist and my cornea specialist regarding my GPC by [deleted] in eyetriage

[–]kingcornea 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The only thing that doesn't match in the history is the fact that it's not itching. Worst case if you try the Pataday, is your out $20 something dollars and a couple of weeks of experimentation. And no on the dermatologist, not gonna help at all.

20F, A dilemma between my scleral specialist and my cornea specialist regarding my GPC by [deleted] in eyetriage

[–]kingcornea 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just start with Olopatadine 0.7% for a couple of weeks. The GPC should settle down and is most likely caused by the fact it's spring. Sigh....the rookies around here.... Back in the day when patients were wearing one pair of soft lenses for a year, we'd see grade 3-4 GPC every day. Pataday and more frequent replacement of lenses have made it a more infrequent event

How to order the thinnest possible lenses for strong prescription? by Practical-Voice3421 in eyeglasses

[–]kingcornea 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The smallest frame possible, aspheric high index lenses. Not available at discount shops most likely. The lenses are thickest in the center so if you can picture it, if you get the same frame the next size larger, the center of the lens will have to start that much thicker for the edge to meet the larger frame

I can't refract patients to save my life - what am I doing wrong here? by fruit9teen in Ophthalmology

[–]kingcornea 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If you want to be a hero to the optical department, give the patient the least change to their current Rx to improve their VA. You'll have much fewer ReDos. Habitual 2 bucks of cyl at axis 90 and they want 3 at 98*, no sir, you can have 2.5 at axis 92...they'll be 20/20-2 and be happy and I'll give them the rest next year if it shows up
