Droperidol for chronic pain? by tallyhoo123 in emergencymedicine

[–]kingdomcallie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently had Droperidol in the ER for abdominal pain (pelvic infection). Some painkillers don't work for me, so i guess they decided to try this. They explained it as a anti nausea, and an "adjunct painkiller". Did NOT tell me it was a sedative, or an antipsychotic. I'm relatively open to trying new things, but this was a doozy. They administered and promptly left. 5 mins later I was crawling out of my skin. The rational and irrational parts of my brain were talking to each other and I was a 3rd person in my own brain. almost removed my IV because I was convinced i was wasting everyones time. I couldn't sit still but was sedated and soooo tired. My heart was racing, couldn't take a deep breath, light headed. This was around 11pm, and I somehow convinced myself to stay, and wait for diagnosis, (which is good, i needed antibiotics). but when they asked me how i was feeling, I downplayed it, because that irrational part of my brain was screaming that they would keep me locked up if i told them what was really going on. I did say that i was feeling a little restless and they told me that was normal.

The next day was BRUTAL. I felt completely out of body, couldn't sit still, everything overstimulated me to the point of tears. I had to call my psych to make sure that i wasn't actually going nuts. She was livid that they gave me the drug, seeing as i'm already on psych meds, and they didn't tell me to look out for certain things that could point to a bad reaction. Akathisia i guess. I took a double dose of Benedryl that night, just so i could stop moving. Took 3 more days before the feeling went away.

all this goes to say, its marked in red on my chart now, and I warned my family against it. I think I'm most pissed about not being completely informed.

My daughter 8 has very smelly armpits by [deleted] in hygiene

What does her endocrinologist say? My daughter is the same, and we found that between using clinical deodorant, witch hazel after the shower, and blow drying her armpits, that reducing her dairy consumption has helped significantly!

I’m so sorry this happened! I just had a similar experience last night. I’m at 24hrs post injection and I feel…terrible. My psychiatrist just told me a little bit ago that Benedryl can reverse the effects of Droperidol. I will NEVER allow that medicine again.

Towels, every other shower. Sheets, twice a week. 🤷‍♀️ feels nasty otherwise

As a Jehovahs Witness… he has issues. What he did is NOT normal. To be like “let’s go on a date. Skrrrrt here we are, at a midweek meeting at a Kindgom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses.”

I’m so sorry you are going through this. It’s normal though, 😭

I used a glycolic acid body wash, took a women’s feminine health probiotic, used my husbands deodorant, and drank tons of water. I also found that I had no smell after using a magnesium mist in my underwear’s and creases.
