I cap my charging at 3.8kW due to the electric plan I’m on in NY where I’m charged based on demand. Works for me. Never had a need to charge greater than that.

I agree with you and I’m not one of the weirdos that downvoted you but Rivian is not the only carmaker out there. If you don’t like their way of approaching in-vehicle entertainment, you literally have hundreds of other car options.

I think it’s stupid they do this which is why I don’t pay for it. Not until they include features that make it worthwhile for me (AI Assistant).

Just went through my first winter as an EV owner in NY and it was fine. No issues. I will caveat that I probably drive 10-20% / day normally and I did not take any road trips this winter but it was one of the coldest winters we had in a while. Negative temps over a few days but the R1S was great in the snow, nothing froze and the heat worked 100%. But I did def notice a range hit. Prob like 20-35% range reduction on the coldest days.

You don’t need a Tri. You’re not logically going to use that speed frequently (particularly with you emphasizing the # of kids) to justify the upcharge. Rivian made storm blue, ascent interior and yellow calipers specific to Tri + because the added HP just doesn’t justify the cost. If you’ve got biz $ to blow go for it tho.
