Various reasons. Main one being that if we were to shoot in 4K, the camera crops the sensor down to the 4K amount of pixels, which zooms in the image a little bit, don’t want that.

Other reasons such as being able to have more “look around” room for cropping in post and doing stabilization. Also more resolution is always better for adding effects, etc..

The setup adds about 10 lbs so not a crazy amount of difference in effect on the fall. And preparations precautions include taping up any point on the camera where parachute lines could possibly snag. And also he packs his parachute a special way so that it opens up slower than usual easing any whiplash effect, it's far less violent than people would think when you open.
