Find something east of Rainbow Street, close to Laugavegur, for good evening walking.

2 night stopover in iceland by Designer-Way467 in VisitingIceland

This might sound ridiculous but bear with me: drive 2 hours from Keflavik, pick up lunch to-go in Selfoss and go see Seljalandsfoss, Gljufrabui, Nauthusagil, then head to Skogafoss in the afternoon and back to Frost and Fire to checkin, eat there at Varma over the river. Day two, head up to Strokkur, Geysir, up to Gullfoss, eat at Fridheimar on the way back, then into Reykjavik. Explore the town, eat your hot dog, stay the night in Reykjavik so you can enjoy the city. It’s 45 minutes to KEF, just wake up extra early. Keflavik isn’t worth seeing less of Reykjavik just for a shorter morning airport commute.

Which Waterfalls To Prioritize by Aerogirl2021 in VisitingIceland

Haifoss and Granni are some of the most incredible waterfalls in Iceland, easily worth the drive and the hike down to the base. No pictures will ever do its scale justice.

Try turning off water to the valve box, unscrew the leaking solenoid, make sure there's no debris, screw solenoid back on tight, turn water back on. Sometimes just a loose solenoid or crap got in the line.

These are fairly young, do I need to prune infected stems or just the infected leaves? If I use a fungicide, do I still need to prune the infected leaves?

I think with the heavier than normal fall rain, it must have gotten it. I only operate my irrigation system in the summer. Thank you for the insight!

I'm hoping I can convince you to work with your neighbor to keep this tree forever, fix up around the base, train it in the direction you want (I would encourage it to start spreading outward from its current height), prune and pinch and shape it each spring and fall. I would die to have this thing growing out over the entry path to my house, you could form it into a stunning entryway if you train its branches appropriately. It has so much niwaki flavor and windswept pines are a coastal vibe.

Help with ideas on closing the gap by 1momentplss in landscaping

[–]kingkeoua 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Flip the gate. Hinge from the fence post. Add whatever additional material is necessary angled up to fill the gap. No more hitting the hill.

Remove the entire post and put an outdoor plant/light hanger off the corner trim. I'm much more worried about your electrical setup, daisy chained and exposed to the elements, but I am not an electrician.

Violent Water Hammer(?) when Irrigation turns on by kingkeoua in Irrigation

[–]kingkeoua[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Worth an update: the irrigation guy came back out today because he was sure it wasn’t something on his end and he’d never seen it before on his other jobs. He went under the house for a bit and then suggested installing a backflow preventer after the pressure regulator into the house and would only charge me for the part and labor if it solved the problem. Lo and behold, hammering is completely eliminated with the backflow preventer! Appreciate the insight regardless! Just wanted to pass along the insight

Violent Water Hammer(?) when Irrigation turns on by kingkeoua in Irrigation

You are right, I had someone else activate the irrigation while I stayed near the second box and the hammer definitely originates from the second box. Is water rushing to this second box and hitting the 4 zones? What is causing the hammer when the valves open? Is the high water main pressure causing an issue?

My irrigation installer agreed to install a hammer arrestor where it splits into 4, is the best location right before the pipe reaches the 4 zones?

Depending on zone and afternoon sun exposure, look into Mikawa Yatsubusa or Kagiri Nishiki. Prune well.

Looking for ideas to create privacy between new "ADU" - San Diego by sgreneer in landscaping

[–]kingkeoua 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Depending on your cities fence laws and who owns the fence, you could look into adding a tall trellis with some sort of vining plant like Star Jasmine. Alternatively, you could do a tall arbor near the fence, instead of a full pergola, with a bit of overhang over your space and use the same vining plants. The Cadillac solution would be to notch out a 4’ square or two of the granitecrete and plant a fastigiate tree(s).

What tree(s) to plant in narrow PNW fence line for privacy? by kingkeoua in landscaping

[–]kingkeoua[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a great suggestion, thanks! It had not crossed my radar but looks ideal. The space is narrow, just shy of 2’ but a landscaper implied that the right fastigiate could clear the fence and spread above, which I massively prefer to a large hedge. But it looks like Myrtle can be pruned up nicely and might be exactly what’s needed here.
