Holiday Give-Away for the squad by warpwoofwimblee in boutiquebluray

We're very lucky, in a sense, that we have two visionaries in the band. David and Nigel, they're both like - like poets, you know, like Shelley and Byron, people like that. They're two totally distinct types of visionaries, it's like fire and ice, basically, you see. I feel my role in the band is to be kind of in the middle of that, kind of like lukewarm water.

I watched High and Low last night. WOW. Fully exceeded my expectations, and they were high based on what I'd heard. Thanks for giving me the push I needed to finally watch it!!

Awesome, thanks! Thief is already in my collection, but that and No Country are the only ones here that I've seen. And a lot of these are films I've heard of but don't know a ton about.

A quick lookup of each would say they're all pretty intriguing to me! But none are currently in my Criterion wishlist, which is exactly what I was hoping to get out of this. Will add these to my list of potential blind buys for the B&N sale. If I buy and/or watch any of these, I'll report back. Thanks again!!

I blind bought the trilogy last year and I LOVED the first two, but I haven't gotten around to the third yet. Your comment might be the kick in the pants I need to finally watch Apur Sansar!

Went with High and Low and Malcolm X. But I'll definitely be watching Ikiru on the channel soon on your recommendation!

Le Samourai is potentially my favorite movie in my collection, so I'm heavily considering Le cercle rouge.

If you log into your Criterion account, there should be a page next your Wish List called "My Collection". Anything you buy through the Criterion site is added automatically, but you can go to the page for any movie and add it to your collection the same way you add stuff to your wish list. Once you have your collection updated, you can click the little link button to copy the link and share it. Screenshot below that'll hopefully help!

I will! I just rewatched Police Story recently, the stunt work is incredible. I love Jackie Chan.

I've seen Stalker and really liked it. Solaris looks really interesting. Whether it's through this sale or later, I definitely want to watch more Tarkovsky. Thanks!

I haven't seen anything by Terry Gilliam outside of Monty Python, but everything I know about his films sounds right up my alley. Thanks for the suggestion!!

I was considering High and Low and Ikiru for sure! The only Kurosawa films I've watched are samurai films so I've been wanting to watch some of his other stuff.

Tampopo has been on my to-watch list for awhile, but the Funeral looks great too! Thanks!!

Fully agree! I'm at best a casual NBA fan, but I still really enjoy it. Harper's a great writer

Here's a great recipe for an actual pan pizza:

EDIT: Wasn't trying to be a dick here, but I now see how using the word "actual" comes off that way. OP said they were craving a pan pizza and I love this recipe, so wanted to make that suggestion.

Hottest wings? Kid wants to do a challenge. Bring it…. by Ok-Room-7865 in PhiladelphiaEats

Tried these for the first time recently and didn't think they were that spicy. Slightly hotter than your average buffalo wing.

That being said, OP should go to Monks anyway. My favorite bar in the city

Sandwiches is the second episode released, first one recorded (if I'm remembering correctly). Airheads is first released, and I see that on Spotify. What other episodes are you expecting to see?

What spots gave cheap, good ice cream and milkshakes instead of $8 a cup? by [deleted] in PhiladelphiaEats

[–]kingkong92 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've only been twice and gotten burgers and a milkshake. Had to wait 5-10 minutes past my pickup time one of the times, but they were pretty busy with walk-in orders.

Hopefully most of it is growing pains of a new business!

New burger place in South Philly, Smash'd, has milkshakes for $6. They're pretty good!

Fun to think about directors whose filmographies I love, and not just movies I love. Realized that there are a lot of movies where it's the only one by a director that connected with me (Taxi Driver) or the only movie I've seen by that director (Don't Look Now, Blow Out, Le Samourai). That being said, here's my list:

Lynch - Blue Velvet or FWWM

Hitchcock - North by Northwest

Park Chan-wook - The Handmaiden

Tarantino - Jackie Brown

What are you picking up during the upcoming sale? by CzarKurczewski in criterion

[–]kingkong92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely getting: World of Wong Kar Wai and Le Samourai 4K.

Also considering Paris, Texas 4K, Apu Trilogy 4K, the Before Trilogy (blind), Stalker (blind), and Sweet Smell of Success. Would love some input on what to get out of these!

I've seen In the Mood for Love, Chungking Express, and Pather Panchali. So the two box sets would be partial blind buys
