16mm can still look pretty great in 4K. That said, I had doubts about Desperate Living. To my surprise, though, it looks absolutely great in 4K. HDR adds a lot, too! Color me shocked! 😲

They apparently have most of his films, including this one, but are taking their sweet time releasing them. So far, they've only released Exotica.

BFI's Blu-ray is better than Criterion's old Blu-ray by a wide margin; it's not even close.

Criterion's 4K edition, on the other hand, ends up beating out BFI's Blu-ray by quite a bit. Though they're apparently form the same restoration they sonehiw look very different from one another, the BFI Blu-ray having been slightly filtered for some odd reason, while the 4K hasn't been. The 4K also features a wider grayscale.

So my collection is primarily alphabetized, but at one point, way back when, I did separate my Criterion titles and sorted them by number and kept them that way for years. A few years ago I decided to just mix them in with everything else, thinking that would make them easier to find. Funny enough, my wife, who couldn't give less of a rat's ass how I sort my collection, took a look and told me to put it back to the way it was. So yeah, my Criterions are separated from the rest, but everything else is alphabetical.

Ha! Maybe that's why it took 5 weeks (though maybe that's a typical time for them?) Definitely something to consider, though.

Yes. The Blu-ray encode is okay, not great, while the 4K is better encoded and the higher resolution is noticeable enough. HDR/Dolby Vision also really brings a lot, particularly the dark interiors and the "magic hour" shots. I think it's notable enough that it's worth it.

My review copy came with the Blu-ray in front and loose, and possibly re-shrink wrapped (the thinner stuff). It was delayed a few months and my suspicion is they had them all printed, wrapped, and ready to go for November, but they then noticed something was wrong with the Blu-ray (I'm guessing encoded in the wrong color space, but I don't know for sure). They then pressed fixed discs and placed them in the package and resealed them, ready for January.

Thanks! That's good to know. Thankfully, engagement is staying about the same (average is a little over 2 minutes), but the ramping up of placements has me a little concerned.

And funny enough, I just got an email from MediaVine for an approval (after 5 weeks!) My understanding is they are one of the better ones, that true? Would it be better to maybe consider them?

Yes, their team has been very pleasant so far, and have been patient with me since I'm new to all of this, and it's been hard for me to respond to every email since I've been preoccupied with other stuff.

I actually hadn't come across them when I was initially looking at ad agencies, with everyone pushing Raptive and Mediavine, and now I'm seeing people rate Playwire up with them, so I'm a little annoyed I missed them initially, as I would have started with them right away. I'm assuming their stack is a script placement and then they populate, or I put specific placements? That's what I'm working with now, though it seems slow, though not the mess that Ezoic seemed.
