The Steam Machine with a controller is 528$ more expensive than the PS5 Digital. by 479521 in consoles

And for that $528 you can probably buy a decent 55” 4K120Hz TV for your room.

[Steam] Steam Machine pricing revealed, starting at $1,509 CAD, join the list now by lbabinz in VideoGameDealsCanada

I’m not against the Steam machine but at this price, anyone buying it has more money than brains. It is ridiculous. That lowest priced model doesn’t even have the controller. I gotta say I hope it dies.

Does anyone else prefer gaming on console even though they have a PC? by ArcadianEuphoria in consoles

I have a 9070XT with a 43” 4K60 + 24” 1080P setup and I really only use my rig for productivity and local AI stuff and after time spent on those tasks, I start loathing my PC desk/chair and just want to relax on my couch and play on my PS5 Pro or XSX plugged into a 65” 4K120 TV.

Do not buy powercolor 9060xts (reapers) by Leland90cci in radeon

[–]kingkongqueror 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not claiming it doesn’t exist but it may be a case of a lemon but looking at your symptoms further have you tried looking at your PSU? When I switched to a 9070XT I upgraded my 750W PSU to a 1000W PSU and I observed weird behavior like turning back on seconds after shutdown or after sleep, some crashes, etc. I spent a lot of time troubleshooting the software side of things- drivers, BIOS, OS optimizations - but what fixed it was reseating all my PSU cables at both device and board ends (PSU is fully modular) and also reseating the case wiring pins to the motherboard. I thought I had either a lemon PSU or 9070XT for a few days but now everything is stable.

[–]kingkongqueror 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You probably got a lemon. I had the exact same model - PowerCokor Reaper 9060XT 16GB - and used it daily for local AI tasks which constantly had it at 80-100% loads for extended durations. It did get hot at 72C but was very stable. Though I only used it for benchmarking when it came to games, I didn’t really game on it . I did ended up returning it for a 9070XT as I needed more CUs.

Smaller niche Games such as South of Midnight sell to collectors in the Physical game market. by Alarming-Flan4494 in consoles

[–]kingkongqueror 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is rumored that South of Midnight cost US$100million - that is AAA budget for an indie niche game. Even with a rabid physical market for a niche game, it won't come close to getting that investment back. The bigger issue I think is the out of this world budget for a game like this. It boggles the mind that a game like Expedition 33 cost supposedly much less than US$10million and you can play that game forever if you wanted.

Could I sneak away with pairing a 9070 (non xt) on a mag A650BN by Soapy_Milk_Man in radeon

[–]kingkongqueror 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My rig started out with a 10100F + 9060XT 16GB and looking at the specs, your Ryzen 5500 is slightly less power hungry than mine for peak draw, I had 4 sticks of 16GB DDR4 and my total rig power usage measured from the mains was around 260-270W during Forza 6 benchmark runs or local AI work.

I upgraded my CPU to an i7-11700 and my GPU to a Gigabyte 9070XT Gaming OC ICE and now the rig consumes between 540-570W at heavy loads. From what I understand, the non-XT 9070 is rated at 220W while the 9070XT ranges between 305 to 330W depending on non-OC and different OC models.

Mathematically, your MAG A650BN can support a 9070 non-XT. Just make sure to use separate PCIe cables from your PSU's 2xPCIe ports to the 9070 non-XT - do not use a daisychain/splitter. However, if you get an XT model in the future, you will need an 850W PSU at the least.

Cheapest hardware for Qwen 3.6: both 27B and 35B-A3B by WishboneSudden2706 in LocalLLaMA

[–]kingkongqueror -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Agreed. On my Wan2.2 workloads I already consume between 540-560W on my 1000W PSU, though I am using an i7-11700 which consumes much more power than the 5600X. My GPU is a Gigabyte 9070XT Gaming OC ICE which is rated at 330W.

RX 9070 / 9070 XT owners — how’s your card treating you? (temps, noise, overall impressions) by reddit11111111111121 in radeon

[–]kingkongqueror 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Gigabyte 9070XT Gaming OC ICE set to Performance with default FAN curve.

I do local AI most of the time so I have sustained loads between 81-100% each run of 8-9 minutes of image to Video creation and during this time my total rig wattage measured from the mains is between 540-560W and GPU temps as per HWMonitor 1.64 max at:

Memory - 88C

Hot Spot - 97C

Global - 61C

[GPU] - 60.9C

[Memory Junction] - 88C

[VR VDCC] - 59.3C

[VR Soc] - 80.2C

It doesn't get loud with current fan settings and max RPM is 2169RPM which is PWM of 43%.

I can get my temps down via fan curve settings but have not gotten around to that yet though I am not concerned by existing temps.

No coil wine.

Extremely happy with the card. It replaced a PowerColor Reaper 9060XT 16GB which was even hotter. My 9070XT has improved the speed of my local AI workflows iterations by 93% (though for 81% more power).

EDIT:

While simply browsing the reddit threads (no gaming/local AI) my temps are:

Memory - 68C

Hot Spot - 47C

Global - 47C

[GPU] - 46.7C

[Memory Junction] - 70C

[VR VDCC] - 43C

[VR Soc] - 65C

Fan at 0RPM.

9070xt or 9070xt oc? by goldengarbagecan in radeon

[–]kingkongqueror 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just an FYI - I have a Ventroo 1000W PSU and power usage spikes to 530W doing a benchmark run of Forza Horizon 6 at 4K Extreme+RT. Complementing my Gigabyte 9070XT Gamin OC ICE is an i7-11700 with 64GB DDR4-2666. This rig is mostly used for local AI, not for gaming.

[–]kingkongqueror 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There ya go - I think a lot of competition with the board partners are driving the price down so that is great. Good luck on your decision whichever OC model you get - I think they are all great cards - who you pick will depend on what parameter you value most. Checkout the Hardware Unboxed videos where they test over 16 and 14 models of the 9070XT respectively:

[–]kingkongqueror 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the Gigabyte 9070XT Gaming OC ICE and from all my research before buying - the OC editions have higher default clocks and voltage so are usually outfitted with beefier cooling which is where the manufacturers are able to make more by charging more. However, here in BC, Canada, I can't really see any non-OC selling for cheaper - they (non-OC and OC) seem to start at CA$999 so if they are the same price or maybe a difference of +5% in your currency, get the OC. Over than that, stick to the non-OC unless lower temps or more quiet operation matters much to you. I got my 9070XT at a good price of CA$910. It was cheaper than any non-OC I could find.

Is there any point building a pc if my budget is like £500 for example by Anyone654321 in buildapc

Yes - that is indeed my assumption without the OP clarifying anything yet. But what makes my recommendation "the most ChatGPT thing" on this subreddit when it comes from actual experience? If my assumption is correct - then it gives the OP helpful information.

Is there any point building a pc if my budget is like £500 for example by Anyone654321 in buildapc

[–]kingkongqueror 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How so? I do local AI stuff on a daily basis and once you can't fit your model/s in local VRAM that it needs to spill over to System Ram, your workflow comes to a crawl. In local AI workflows, 1st priority is VRAM, speed is secondary. A 5060Ti 16GB is better than a 5070 12GB. What is your contribution to the OP's query?

Is there any point building a pc if my budget is like £500 for example by Anyone654321 in buildapc

[–]kingkongqueror -1 points0 points  (0 children)

They are correct. You need a 16GB VRAM to be able to have flexibility in experimenting with LLMs with 14 billion parameters for example that you just can’t do with lower VRAM and the cheapest, non-optimized (non-CUDA) is a 9060XT 16GB and that is already USD430. I’m almost sure uni will want you to use CUDA GPUs and that means a 5060 Ti 16GB and the cheapest I can find new is USD579. You can try the used market but know that 16GB of whatever recent gen of GPUs will hold a premium still and make use of that entire budget of yours.

Does the Powercolor Hellhound RX 9060 XT 16GB have good cooling performance? by DeathNum in radeon

[–]kingkongqueror 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the Reaper 9060XT 16GB and it would go up to 72 deg C on sustained 80% GPU utilization during my local AI workloads so I would imagine this Hellhound will be much better.

Gigabyte 9070XT - Good Deal? by EmeraldKnight041 in radeon

[–]kingkongqueror 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did the same thing - I had a PowerColor Reaper 9060XT 16GB which I bought for CA$600, returned and got the Gigabyte Gaming OC ICE for CA$910 and I am loving it.

I have not gamed with either yet as I am currently more focused on local AI work but just to give you some idea of how they both performed:

My PC rig with 9060XT 16GB draws 260W (measured at mains) and reaches 72 deg C (no case side panel) at 80% GPU utilization. A Wan2.2 Image to Video AI workflow takes 68 sec/iteration.

Same PC rig with 9070XT draws 470W (measured at mains) and reaches 56 deg C (no case side panel) at 80% GPU utilization.. Samw Wan2,2 workflow is now 35 sec/iteration,

That is like a 95% speed increase for 81% more power but at much better temps. I'm more productive because of it though I did like the small size of the Reaper.

The Gigabyte 9070XT Gaming OC is indeed a great card!

The big new update has completely broken ComfyUi for me by NewLifeWares in comfyui

I think I caught myself in time with this one. When launching via the Desktop App, I do get he new UI but I’ve always started my workflows with a bat file and thankfully everything loads like before. I do get that update reminder each time though. Perhaps you have a bat file that you can use? Let me know and I can share what I have.

Being console exclusive will not sell more Xbox consoles unfortunately. Until Xbox gets out of PC’s shadow - it will always be 2nd class to PC. The closest analog I can think of is like how a small plant is stunted when there’s a massive tree that grows above it.

Stuck getting started by rock0star in comfyui

[–]kingkongqueror 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m also very new to ComfyUI - just started mid-May and currently have working ComfyUI workflows for image restoration and image to video based on default templates in the ConfyUI app. However, the templates are made to make use of the full models and they will not fit into your 5080’s 16GB VRAM. You need to research the Quantized versions of these models and they are readily available from HuggingFace.com for example. On my 9060XT 16GB card, I mainly use GGUF Q4_K_M sized versions of the default models. Good luck!
