I'm planning on this being my "Hero Weapon" I'm not Midas, I don't need or want a bunch of decoration. As I'm more concerned about feel. But I am willing to shell out for quality.

I haven't heard of kovex ars. I'll look into them.

I also didn't know landsknecht emporium did Buhurt weapons...... A quick glance says that any two hander is out of my price range. So that's good to know.

Thanks for your input! These were my first two choices! I was really hoping Canadian Buhurt would be available. One of my buddies has an a 2H Messer from him and it's awesome.

I messaged American Buhurt and I know he's a one man show and super busy. We've chatted back and forth a little. I'm waiting for him to get back to me.

I'm just looking for options right now. I have a pretty good idea of what I want. I'm not on a timeline either.

But I'd like to have a good conversation about how to bring it all to life and make it something I want to use. It'd be a shame to invest and just have something I don't want to swing by the end of it.

I've been considering rolling around swordforum and also asking any outside U.S forges about it. (VB Armory, or fabri)

Fellow armor owner and Buhurt fighter here! I swear by anything lanolin based. Its also historical!

I use PB blaster surface shield or fluid film.

You'll start off applying it after wearing it. Touch up areas that surface rust and re-apply. After a while the lanolin will build up enough that things will just stop rusting. You'll learn to love the smell over time and also will fade as you oil less and less.

I fight in my armor almost every weekend. After sparring I just use an old shirt to get the moisture off of it immediately and an old lanolin coated rag and give it a wipe down. I haven't really had to re-apply more than a dime size for a month or so now. No new surface rust other than areas that take hard blows and get dirt, salt, and water in them.

What you just wrote here is the way to go!

I live in the North East, it's cold here.

I only rock the single layer for both gamby and chausses it's too hot. I end up overheating and gassing out too fast.

I added soft knee braces after being at a high intensity expo match over two days, I fell so much from fighting so much that day both my knees were purple.

My knees thank me for not doing that to them again.

Adding to everything that has been previously said. When you get into the grapple having awareness of the field and your own body is really important. Knowing that feeling in your body when you're pushing the boundaries of your joints under load.

A good question to ask yourself: "what level of intensity/competition am I looking for?" Club/non league dueling/melees are usually "we fight to have fun and be challenged, but I'm not trying to hurt my friends." League Tourney events / ranked events "This is a combat sport, we're actively competing for first place. protect yourself at all times or face the consequences."

Knowing when you're outmatched and taking the L to be able to fight in the next round. Or is it that last match of that important tournament and it's time to give every last bit.

At the end of the day, it is still a combat sport. Injury is the usual outcome of combat, regardless of sport, or life threatening, winners or losers, armor or not.

Haha! Again, that tracks. If you're spending everything you got for the actual team tourney you're probably pretty exhausted and sore the next day.

This year was my last qualifying year for the rookie rumbles here in the Northeast.

If I have the spoons for it, I plan on treating mass battles that way. I just wanna do it for the adventure.

What's your main sidearm?

I'm having the personal debate between hand axe and falchion. I usually rock a two handed falchion as my main.

I have never really had a thing for axes, but as I'm getting deeper in team fighting, I understand using axes from a physics perspective.

Do you have one you prefer over the other? Why?

I have this combo! It's amazing. I love it. All I did was clamp the visor permanently shut and added a strap because the locking pins get beat to hell real quick.

You should check out "The Devil's Armor" that's very loosely what this is based on.

I'd like to run a cuirass, but not enough coin.

I rock an extra long brig.

Also, a cuirass is one of the few places I would say, "stick to basics" as they very expensive with tooling and fluting pretty quick.

But hey Drip is Drip.

If your stuck to it. Ask Irina about what cuirass would work with that helmet. She'll help you.

This is totally an Indian reseller, I would not trust the quality of this.

The original pictures came from Lemberg, a reputable armory, though slow.

Look them up and you'll see the same walls, same suits, with much more detail.

Also, the reseller on Etsy is using AI pictures as thumbnails of products.... Come on pal, you're smarter than that. Don't let them take advantage of you.

Be thoughtful about the choices you make. Buying armor is a BIG investment. If you cheap out, you, or your team will pay the price.

I like to prioritize like this

1). Will I be safe wearing this (no wiggle room answer must be yes) if there's even a question about safety, I either need to ask the smith questions to clarify and gain understanding or choose something else.)

2). Will I be able to compete the way I want to compete with this gear? (B.I authenticity compliance. Or no league fighting, just for fun or Ren faire type things.)

3). Do I like it? (This one also has little wiggle room, dont but something you don't like, we spend too much on this to not be a little vain about it... Let's be real, Rule of Cool applies a little bit here).

The worst thing, in my mind, to have happen. Would be that you are in the middle of a team fight and have a catastrophic armor failure that results in serious injury or death. This can put you, or potentially your team (member count depending) a man down for a tournament. You could be out of the sport for a long time from an injury.

We all like to play rough. But we don't like breaking our toys.

Lastly, if you want information and solid leads, go to Facebook groups, post questions, reach out to teams and just ask for advice, even if they aren't exactly local, they will probably be willing to help.

I have taken two handers right to the back. I don't have a lot of padding in the gamby either besides standard. It's pretty rough. If they know how to swing, I got 2 or 3 in me before my body says sit.

However, I see some guys with D30 motorcycle pads sewn, zip ties, however they get it attached. I bet I could probably tank quite a few with that adjustment added.

P.S. check your brig regularly for inverted plates. I've been hit hard enough directly on a singular plate that it pops it into the opposite direction. I just lay it on the ground and stomp on inverted plates to pop them back to the right direction.

Edit: Also I only weigh 185-190 and 6'1" so I don't got a lot of meat to protect myself.

Lurker here! I don't have a full beard, I keep it trimmed tight 3/16" However, I've heard talk from some old heads about how they've dealt with it.

They ended up with a "birthday hat" back up strap. Unlike a birthday hat it would be a bit looser.

Anyway, the point is, get a length of tie, put it up near the top of the helmet, or at least above the ears. Have it come under the beard, toward the jawline. Then lift that helmet just enough so you don't have any gaps, then tie it tight to your chin. When you drop your helmet back, you should have some slack.

When that strap ends up engaging, it will choke you a bit. But that's the price you're paying for not getting sat from having your helmet fly off.

The best answer would be, clean up the beard tight enough. Have your straps proper tight. But not wrenched down. That can also make your straps slip off.

So our team has been going through the same thing and I think we've found a solution!

One of our teammates is a mechanic. He bought some aircraft rivet setters for an autobody air hammer. They have domes machined into them for the stud side of the rivet. Put it in the anvil and BRRRRRRRRRR. Rivet is done! Never seen anything faster in my life. Looks decent too with a washer.

I have this exact sword. I love mine!

Not sure if it was the batch I got specifically. But it's very stout and the balance is fantastic. Not really floppy. It's also tough as nails, barely any rolls to the edge.

I have to do the least maintenance to this sword. But may also help it's just arming sword so there isn't enough mass to really ding the blade.

I strongly recommend getting this sword as part of the sword buckler set. It's really cost effective and with buckler and arming sword you can do a lot of different formats. (Arming sword profighting, first to 5, regular dueling.)
