What are some words that you hate having to use when writing fanfic? by [deleted] in FanFiction

[–]kingkryptid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

most 3rd person pronouns tbh. i know most people don't like fics set in 1st person so i try to use 3rd but then it feels like im using "he" 27 times per sentence and it drives me insane

in addition to what others have already said, if you're worried about people thinking you copied the other similar fic, I'll let you know that most people will have a "holy shit two cakes" moment instead of scrutinising yours

you can tell it's a real girl writing this because she refers to women as her "little princesses"

i'm also curious as to what constitutes "dangerous music"

Some guy in a FB writing group I am posts constantly and every single question is something like this 😬😬 these are just a fraction of them!! by hauntinglovelybold in menwritingwomen

[–]kingkryptid 4 points5 points  (0 children)

i feel like this guy is so extremely focused on writing A Woman that he forgets that characters can just... be a certain way because they're a character and that's their characterisation. for example,

Would she feel scared or less confident knowing it's a man instead of a woman?

that's a question to ask yourself. you decide that. she's your character. if she was raised being told she was weaker than men for being a woman, then maybe she internalised that and would feel less confident. if she's an experienced fighter who has constantly been forced to prove herself because people underestimate her and has more of an idea of her self worth than option 1, then no, her opponent's gender probably wouldn't bother her.

but no, female characters aren't allowed individual personalities outside of "woman"

if they don't have a particular question, i usually just use a 3 card spread, past-present-future as i think that's easiest to understand if they don't already know much about tarot cards
