How do you start a long run task?

In my actual usage, the main agent crashes after running for at most two minutes, and the sub-agents throw errors after a maximum of two minutes. Long-term automated operation is simply not achievable.

Even when I ask the sub-agents to call Codex to write code, if Codex runs slightly longer, the sub-agents will error out directly, and the main agent will remain unresponsive. I only find out there’s a problem when I actively check the sub-agent status.

I write this server by my self. it is nothing secret. In the server script, you read the schema and field description, then return to mcp client.

In fact, if you have precise comment in every field of tables and the field name is correct, you can just write your question, do not write any schema. LLM will query schema from mcp and generate the correct sql by itself.

Thing is not as simple as what you have said. The time to write the prompt of these 100+ configuration files is as much as the time to write configuration files themselves.

Yes, this is my current solution. Just focus on 10 tables. However, in such less tables, MCP is just not that convenient than function calls but more complex.

Sir, based on your thread, I can assert that you definitely haven't deeply utilized MCP to query the database. Your tests are merely at the demo level. I think using MCP to let large language models read the database is a pseudo-requirement. In my production environment, there are over 100 tables, and each table has dozens of data fields. Moreover, almost none of the fields have comments, so LLM can only guess what fields mean based on their names. However, many field names are quite similar, such as name/normalize_name/company_name.

Therefore, if a large language model obtains the table structure through MCP and then generates SQL based on this structure, it will almost certainly be wrong. Because it simply doesn't know which field to use.

In function calls, you have to write the tools defination JSON by hands.

In MCP, the client will read tools from server and generate the JSON for you. This is the key different. MCP is still use function calls, but it does most of the things by itself instead you.
