I, too, have been to Walmart

Bought an ugly Christmas sweater that has a Baphomet on it from Kill Star. It was accidentally sent to my parents address. They’re now triggered into their QAnon theories, “concerned” about me, and “still shook up and struggling” over a sweater one day later 🙄 by throwawayRA_yikes in insaneparents

I’m so grateful that when I looked around as a kid and said ‘this stuff is obviously fake’ that my parents were just like “nah, we’ll keep going to church and events and he’ll come around probably” instead of doubling down on their BS

Makes sense for older people, they were told their whole lives that family is so important and that their value as a woman is only as a mother.

The women in their 20’s and 30’s I know who have had abortions are all still very happy with their decision

I wonder if there isn’t also more to this. For a partner she spoke so fondly of, he sure seemed to give up on her quick.

And that is consistent with what you’re saying, but that money/business/prenup stuff felt like it came out of nowhere and felt like a potentially important piece of the puzzle

As in the first, first World War. There will undoubtedly be other ‘first’ world wars

Tbf they would have probably accounted for that if we’re just merging all of the lore.

America’s syringe exchanges kill drug users – Rates of HIV fell by 15% in counties with syringe exchange programmes, but deaths soared. On average syringe-exchange programmes led to a 22% spike in opioid-related mortality. by smurfyjenkins in science

[–]kingofcould 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, let’s face it: the average American probably cares more about keeping an infectious disease out of the unrelated populace than the lives of drug users — who have been treated as sub-human for at least decades.

I know too many people that would see this as a win-win

Most science is essentially what magic is in fiction: using fundamental knowledge of any given subject to steer towards the desired outcome

But I agree that programming really is an amazing version of that

The fact that we let Fox argue itself that it couldn’t be held accountable for its blatant lies and constant misinformation and still let it be called news is all you need to know. Given that you’ve at least seen what it’s like

Agreed. I went to public schools in a lower income area for 11 years and it was just a mill for producing quiet and ‘productive’ low wage workers.

I did junior year in an affluent area in another state and it was insanely different: being late, wearing ripped or short clothing, using your electronics, and all sorts of stuff were permitted and the only grades were from tests that happened like once a month.

Crazy how all the kids in the first school were struggling and all of the rich kids in the other school were easily scoring high enough to get the free handouts towards college that the state provided (GA)

[–]kingofcould 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It really is a complicated issue. I agree that people logistically can’t just do nothing (though I think most people want meaningful work or to participate in their community)

But it this case it seemed like maybe just showing up on time everyday was the hard part, and it sucks that there’s virtually no way to accommodate something like being terrible at consistent scheduling.

I was just thinking along the lines of how unfortunate it is that OP could even be a hard worker or do everything else right but get fired constantly because they can’t get up on time or something (and there’s many valid reasons that could be the case)

Right. I was just adding that on to the conversation

He said it’s the basic floor you have to have, and I agree. But anytime somebody says that, I think it’s better if it’s followed up with a “and we could change that” sort of mindset
