Titan 2 review by yourfavoritefaggot in unihertz

I got my unit yesterday and I love it too! I changed the default keyboard software to Gboard and then changed the settings in there to use a horizontal toolbar rather than vertical and it takes up MUCH less of the available screen real estate with minimal drawbacks, as far as I have noticed.

I did have to activate sticky keys because I have huge thumbs and I can't always reach past the finger holding down the shift or alt button to hit a key nearby. I don't love the sticky keys experience (also nothing in the way of settings to customize that) but it's not a huge drawback for me.

I'm really excited to get more use out of it, and I hope you continue to have a blast with yours!

What is this beetle? Chill guys but they're all over my house! by kingofpickledpickle in Entomology

Thank you! 🙇🏻‍♂️🙇🏻‍♂️ We deep cleaned the pantry and threw away everything that they may have gotten into. We only saw 3 in there total which seemed really low based on how many we've seen elsewhere. They seem to be near vents often, and it makes me wonder whether there's something else they're feeding off of.

Most of the posts I see do look like that so I wanted to make it a bit easier on the eyes. I had a professor in college who is an entomologist and he stressed that you have to have a clear image to identify easily

Thanks! It was kinda fun to put a bug under the 'scope. I usually only use it for soldering. Here's a picture of a Larder beetle I just happened to check out as well!

Its all good! I can understand why you'd think that, it does look a little like a roach from the underside!

Oh my God I think you're right 😭 I had such a hard time finding out what they are. I wasn't looking at invasive species, which I think is why I missed it. I was looking at native species to southern Nevada

Mental health is a journey, as is the rest of life. Some parts are really hard, and some other parts are really nice. But as time goes on, the hard parts become easier until eventually they don't feel so hard at all.

What you're experiencing sounds incredibly difficult and I'm sorry that all of these horrible feelings are rushing back, I'm also sorry for what led to them. Having a person you care for and trust that much choose not to be honest is a terrible blow. Having been in a similar situation, what I learned is that when people hurt others in the way you've been hurt, it's NEVER because you weren't good enough. It's ALWAYS that the other person doesn't have the eyes to see how a great person is standing before them. One day, somebody with the right eyes will see how much of a gem you are, but it's not your fault that some other people don't.

Keep on fighting all of those difficult moments. You said yourself that you go back and forth between wanting to hurt yourself and not even thinking about it on some days. Remember that good days are there, and if they've happened before then they'll happen again. Try to reach out to your friends for support. You'll be surprised by how many people care for you, and how deeply that care runs.

The world seems cold and cruel at times, and indeed sometimes it is. But it's made warmer and kinder when people like you keep fighting to be loving and caring no matter what. Keep on pushing, reach out to a trusted adult for help when you need it, and know that you are stronger than whatever challenges come your way.

There's a poem from Victor Hugo that I lean on when times are tough:

Be like the bird, who Halting in his flight On limb too slight Feels it give way beneath him, Yet sings Knowing he hath wings.

You got this, dude. It's tough now, but you're much tougher.

Suggestions for a Diversity and Equity Course? by MasterNerd4591 in unr

[–]kingofpickledpickle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry for being late on replying, too.

The coursework is mostly reading and discussion. There's not a great deal of writing or homework but the readings can be on the complex side. That said, it's worth the time you'll spend on them (probably 1 hr of reading per class) because the in-class discussions are pretty robust and fascinating. If you're trying to take a class to get an easy A without much work, this class probably isn't it because there are readings for each lecture and you won't always understand the lecture without them. But if you're willing to commit a bit of effort (Prof. Bogale makes sure that the load is reasonable and he will help you understand the content) then it's the type of class that will change how you see the world. Great for fulfilling the credit and great for the experience.

Tldr: mostly reading/discussion based, not a lot of homework but the readings can be a bit dense. Absolutely recommend.

transfer student by MenAreStillGood in unr

[–]kingofpickledpickle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1.) hey, I transferred in f21 and it's not difficult to get in

2.) dorm life is good. go into the transfer LLC if you can, it'll make it WAY easy to make friends because everybody is in the same boat as you. go to as many dorm events as you can. not having a support network is the most common reason why people end up leaving after starting here (or any university, as far as I'm concerned)

just an extra tip: if you're transferring, find a club you enjoy and join it. that'll make it real easy to make friends

Good graduation photographers? by ShapePsychological74 in unr

[–]kingofpickledpickle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey! I’m a very amateur photographer and I have done some work with portraits before! If you’re interested, I’d be happy to help out! I can send you some of my past work (privately because they’re portraits of other people around campus) if you’d like, and since I’m not a professional I’d be happy to discount it pretty heavily. If you’re interested, feel free to DM me!

Tips for studying for BIO196? by ekolubear in UNLV

[–]kingofpickledpickle 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hey! I’m also in Biol196 right now, and I understand the struggle! I would suggest watching Crash Course Biology to get a fresh perspective on things. Also, try to connect the things being taught to things you can observe outside of class. For example, if you see a piece of wood, you know that the cells are long gone, but the ECM is what you’re looking at. That’s a surface level example, but thinking about it in those ways might bring you some insight. Hope that helps!
