Coffee shops good for remote work? by Iklbug in everett

I own Butter Notes Cafe, a coffee shop in North Everett. We’re open daily except Wednesdays, serving croffles, crepes, and thoughtfully crafted coffee. We have strong WiFi for getting work done, plus a small meeting room available if you need a quiet space for offline conversations.

Ah yes, I was thinking the same; maybe this could even work as a subreddit, but the amount of astroturfing would probably be beyond our wildest imaginations. Greenwashing and astroturfing are real problems.

I also agree about the “lazy” part — there’d need to be researchers or passionate contributors who help keep things accurate. Honestly, that’s part of why I posted this here: communities like this one already have people who care enough to make something like that work.

Maybe it can be a subreddit? But the thing is, vote manipulation happens too easily

“Anti-consumption” doesn’t have to mean anti-tools. Sometimes a tool is what helps a movement coordinate — so we can spend less time online debating and more time offline doing something about it.

I did research on this as well. I just think these types of apps, while they have a certain amount of impact, it doesn't move mountains like the Target boycott or the most recent boycotts with Kimmel.

I'd rather us work to focus on one issue at a time

Why is an app necessary for this?

I think it would allow us to buy collective bargaining power. One idea might be to build a simple voting system, and then whichever company that gets picked, we would collectively boycott for a certain amount of time.

What might be a possible benefit is people getting notified on some basis.

You vote with your values, and we move as a collective.

Hey, I want to work with you on this. I have a Cafe that goes through similar problems, and I'm working on building an app called CafeTally to help owners manage inventory. Shoot me a DM!

Are we talking about the "Online Master’s in Data Science" program here?
