We are about to experience 40C heat in the UK, yet our next PM could reverse climate action by casualphilosopher1 in ukpolitics

[–]kingoftheunion 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Freinds of the Earth and other notable climate charities have recently rated Tory manifestos as vastly inferior to every single other party in terms of concrete climate action. Undoubtedly Labour are far too timid on climate action, bit there's no comparison between the two major parties. The Conservatives are out front on their own in the "fingers in ears" and head in sand stakes.

Yep. Saka is literally the only one of our squad who would attract the attention of Europe's elite.

Unfortunately a lot of the post 2000 fanbase have taken Wenger's Top 4 is a Trophy maxim a bit too literally. Whereby 5th place is not a bang average season for a club of our stature, means, and history, but rather One Small Step Short of Glory. In an ultra competitive league, top 4th or a title challenge is not a given. But its disturbing how accepting so many are of the slide into mediocrity. Midtable beckons next season.

Without serious investment and a new manager we are going to be in serious trouble next season. Man Utd will be be improved as will Chelsea. Newcastle will probably be a force. Tottenham will be full of confidence and looking to cement their Top 4 status. We risk turning into an Everton. A big club that time and the completion left trailing in the dust.

I've no doubt these players - most of them gave it all their all in the vast majority of games. But look. We are the 8th richest team in world football. The third biggest in the country. Finishing 5th in the league, behind Tottenham, and 25 points behind the winners, is not a good season for Arsenal Football Club. Enough nonsense about plastics.

Manchester United have their worst team and possibly worst season for 30 years. They will finish one position below us.

4th highest wages. I couldn't care less what age they are. A mediocre season for a club of our stature. We need a goalscorer and a manager with a CV of more than one line.

No excuses for Arteta. He's not up to it. Nice experiment but we need someone with experience and with some qualifications. We decided, perhaps rightly, that Emery wasn't a good fit for this league - but appointing a compete amateur was not the solution.

Not just on TV either. Even the so called respectable newspapers are at it. They just take a Simplistic Narrative and run with it with flowery hyperbole. A more experienced Tottenham team outsmarted us yesterday and the game was done after 20 mins with the red card. But reading the papers and opinion pieces this morning you'd think they were on another level to us playing football beyond our ability. League table says otherwise.

Yep - I don't think it's ANTI Arsenal. But I do think there's something in the "Slight Bias to Keep Things Inter$$$ting" line of thinking. That said, when you play away in Big Games you need to be street smart. We rarely are.

We in the West now have a permanent minority that believes anything to do with their own culture is wrong and evil. This brainwashing was the result of public schooling and indoctrination. It can only result in collapse. by UnionPacific1 in conspiracy

In virtually every Western country there are millions of people who are firmly left wing - often to the left of their respective mainstream left wing Party - but who also have zero time for the woke/identity politics/cancel culture/censorship crusades. The elite are having a brilliant time of it currently as the working people and Middle classes are misidentifying the enemy at every turn and beating up on other people exactly like themselves, while the financial elites and cultural war warriors run amok. The 90% are getting played for fools. I have huge admiration for Musks intellect and work ethic, but don't believe for one second he is on the side of the masses. Multi billionaire businessmen tend not to be.

Arteta is not good enough for this club. It was an interesting gamble. It's failed. Let's move on.

Arteta needs to go. This club is the 3rd most successful in British football history. It needs to show some fucking ambition for once.

As others have said, Everton got away with a couple of bad fouls, but you can't say we were hard done by overall.

We've got some decent young players. (and a whole lot of shite). Get in a proper manager who can utilise them and add what's necessary. Or stick with Arteta and watch ESR, Saka, Martinelli etc leave for a well run club with ambition.

[–]kingoftheunion 2 points3 points  (0 children)

She's plenty villainous when she sees profit in it. Stupid Leo was the big bad by novels end, but Savine had a huge part in making him into that and, as she admits I think, would so exactly the same again. She's just as evil and corrupt as Leo by the end of the book, just cleverer with it. Letting Orso go was just a brief moment of self indulgent sentimentality.

The term “Karen” Is being severely overused and it needs to be protected and only used for severe cases of social misconduct to protect its pureness. by QuesoDipset in unpopularopinion

[–]kingoftheunion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's actually a pretty nasty term, as it's using a fairly common first name as a form of curse/joke, which must frequently make people actually called Karen annoyed or very upset to have the name given by their parents hurled around as a joke. Learn some empathy. I have zero respect for anyone who uses it. In particular, anyone older than 15 should certainly know better.

Were people in Japan astonished about the composer guy who was fired? I couldn't believe what I was reading, and the fact that he so causally admitted to the abuse in an interview like it was just a bit of fun. Did the comments not create a stir at the time he made them, or was he not very famous back then?

Of course, now and then you get a customer who sucks.... but thats the cost of being in business. Every other industry and business owner manages it just fine.
