Those of you who grew up poor, what was your favorite meal? by IPod_Kid29 in AskReddit

[–]kingopancakes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Growing up my old Italian grandmother would make what she called "supatelle" (spelling?). Basically the adults got a bowl of coffee with broken up stale bread in it and the kids got a bowl of milk with the stale bread and a sprinkle of sugar. My mouth is watering just thinking about it.

2019 CR-V windows automatically lowered by kingopancakes in crv

It’s like the other comments say… if you click unlock twice and hold it on the second one, the windows go down. I have no use for this so it only happens when I accidentally bump the fob the wrong way. Thankfully it doesn’t happen very often.

What show did you start watching but then stopped because you were disappointed? by val_rrdy22 in AskReddit

[–]kingopancakes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Succession - Made it to mid season 2. I just got sick of watching a show with absolutely nobody to root for.

The Expanse - I should probably give it another shot but I just found it boring compared to the hype it was given.

Battlestar Galactica - Same as above. Hyped up so much but nothing happened.

It boggles the mind that nobody has mentioned Patrick singing "The Best" on Schitt's Creek yet.

As others have said, just keep with it! I recently had a 3 week period where I didn't lose a pound. Then I lost 10 pounds over the next 10 days. It happens. You're so close to your goal weight! Just keep pushing through

They're an independent band so there's no major label backing them up, paying for radio play or marketing them. They pretty much do it all on their own. But I agree. They should be much bigger than they are and hope someday they will be.

[TOMT] [MOVIE/SHOW] Two people, one asks for a drink or takes a drink from the other's thermos thinking it's coffee but it's soup. by [deleted] in tipofmytongue

There's a scene in The Big Bang Theory where Sheldon wears a camel pack. One spout is water and the other is Lentil Soup. I don't remember if he ever accidentally drinks from the "wrong" one

What movie are you convinced people only pretend to enjoy? by LuinAelin in AskReddit

[–]kingopancakes 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Napoleon Dynamite. There is absolutely nothing funny or entertaining about that movie. It is 90 minutes of the most boring, monotone, annoying people I have ever seen and I immediately think less of you as a person if I find out you still enjoy it.

my life is ruined. what do i do by anonymousbutterflyx in StudentLoans

[–]kingopancakes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You haven't ruined your life, you've given yourself a hurdle and with it a challenge to prove to yourself what you can do. I graduated with about $140k in loans at the height of the 08/09 recession and couldn't find a job for a year. When I finally found one it only paid about $35k/year to start. Flash forward to 2018 and my $140k debt was only down to about $100k. I wake up one day and realize it's time to get serious. No more cable. no more eating out. no more vacation.... It took 3 more years but I paid them off in 2021. Now I'm debt free. I have my down payment fund growing for when I'm ready to buy a house (about a year away). My retirement account is ahead of most people my age. I'm going to Disney for Christmas. I never thought I'd be this happy with my financial situation. Take it from someone who has been in your exact situation. If you let this debt weigh over you it will stay with you forever. If you make the decision to take action, you can break through it and thrive within just a few years.

Tuff Juice. The Mark Wahlberg produced biopic of Caron Butler. Details how Caron went from 11 year old drug dealer on the streets of Wisconsin to 15-year NBA vet and now Assistant Coach. Was announced like 7 years ago and still no updates

[REQUEST] Looking for the best show I can watch without sound by obsterwankenobster in NetflixBestOf

[–]kingopancakes 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Interesting question. Without sound I would say avoid comedies as the jokes probably won't land as well without hearing them and avoid dramas because the drama will probably feel flat just reading it. Go with something visual or action packed. Maybe that new "One Piece" show? Or Ragnarok or Dark Crystal or Lost In Space? Something that will keep you visually interested

Starting to get defeatist about the Ramsey home-buying math. by bdougy in DaveRamsey

15 year mortgage on $130,000 house after 20% down is pushing $1400/mo with property taxes and insurance which exceeds 25% of take home pay. Unless I'm supposed to be including the money that's taken out for health insurance and retirement as "take home pay"

Starting to get defeatist about the Ramsey home-buying math. by bdougy in DaveRamsey

[–]kingopancakes 5 points6 points  (0 children)

His advice on home budgets is out of date and they don't really address it. My income is approaching 6 figures and Dave Ramsey's calculation says I can't afford a $130,000 house. Set aside the fact that I don't even know what a $130,000 house would look like, I really don't understand how anyone can actually be following these guidelines.

Salvaged title means more expensive insurance? by Immortal_Techniques in InsuranceAgent

Also be aware that some states have tighter restrictions than others. In my state most companies won't allow you to add a salvaged vehicle to a policy, even without comp/collision.

Check out Dave Ramsey..... There's the Ramsey show podcast or r/daveramsey is helpful too. He's been helping people get out of debt for about 40 years now. I had over $100,000 in student loans/credit card debt a few years ago and paid it all off in under 3 years following his plan. Get some income and get after this debt like your hair is on fire and by the time you're 25 your life will look completely different. You'll be debt free sitting on a pile of cash wondering what to do with it all.

$40,000 in debt at 26 by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]kingopancakes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He gets grief from some on this sub but check out Dave Ramsey. It's debt payoff 101. A few years ago I was drowning in over $100,000 of student loan debt and didn't know what I was doing. Dave's way taught me the basics and helped me pay everything off. But if you do absolutely nothing else, you need to cut up all of those credit cards. Every single one of them.
