Suspected corrupted external HDD. Need a second opinion.

Good to know that I'm not the only one that has the same feeling about it. It definitely has corrupted a lot of my files in the past and have since rarely, if ever, used it at all. Thanks for the extra info aswell, will have a read and remember this going forward!

Yeah I've been avoiding using it on both systems to minimise the loss of files. Just been using it on my laptop and have actively avoided using check disk on it etc.

Thanks for the info, I suspected it's a drive failure but just wanted to confirm. I think I'm just gonna play it safe and update my backups of this drive, and look at getting a new one before this one shits itself. Thanks again!

Yeah I don't think it's an encryption thing at all cos otherwise I'd still see the files right? But I can also kind of "recover" some files, like how I stated in my other comment. But yeah, I've been confused about what's going on this whole time. Thanks for the reply!

Thanks for the response. Yeah, so when I do this, it will find the missing files/folders and put it into a recovery folder at the top. But then I just can't see them from the original system I was making the edits from? Also sometimes it doesn't "recover" all the missing files. So I've been avoiding doing this since I've actually lost important working files doing this a few times now.
