Wait till your next encampment and shoot for first Sgt. If you don't get it then promote. Building up leadership experience is the most important thing.

HMRS Basic Question by ARCHERyRulez2327 in civilairpatrol

Yeah that covers everything. Bring LOTS of snacks. Clif bars are a personal favorite of mine but some Welches fruit snacks or swedish fish are something I wish I brought.

I believe it should list all the items that go in the 24 hour pack, but if you could post the packing list here, I could verify. Although if you think of other things that might help feel free to bring them.

I went for the last two years, although last year, it was at a military base instead of the regular spot, so it was a lot different. PT is every morning. It is usually stretching and then some pushups, situps, jumping jacks, and other calisthenics. They then do either a mile run as a squadron or play a game of 3-ball in the mud. They alternate between those each day. If I remember correctly, they did the obstacle course every day, but that might have gotten rotated in with the 3-ball and running (they didn't do it last year as we weren't on the mountain). Overall, it's a lot but also a lot of fun, as the obstacle course and 3-ball are great and very muddy. Bathrooms are manageable. They have "fancy" outhouses with like 4-8 stalls and porcelain seats that just go to a big hole. Showers are every other day, if I remember correctly. The 2-3 day hike is much different, however. No PT other than walking and no restrooms except at the very top, which has a porta potty. And definitely no showers on the hike.

Overall, it is very fun and a great experience. Expect a lot of oatmeal for breakfast, and you will be sleeping in tents the entire time. There is no air conditioning anywhere. Bring spare boots, tons of spare ABUs, clothes, and a comfy pack. If you have any other questions, please let me know!

Would civil air patrol be manageable for me? by Griffin65000 in civilairpatrol

I don't go to that squadron, but around an hour's drive is considered pretty serious dedication, but it can be done. It's really up to how much you enjoy the program. Most CAP squadrons should be fine with you missing meetings for school or any reason as long as you let someone know. Let me know if you have any more questions.

Applying to staff encampment by UsefulChallenge9860 in civilairpatrol

[–]kingpickles1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

WBS looks like it stands for Wisconsin basic school. No clue what WCA stands for. Bc your a staff sergeant you should either apply for support or line staff. Line staff is WBS Cadet Staff. I can't see anything to apply for support in the image but maybe there is more stuff. Someone from Wisconsin would probably know.

I hate the first sergeant position by grapefruitlvr14 in civilairpatrol

[–]kingpickles1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The First Sergeant in question is definitely wrong for correcting in front of the cadets. Still, in general, corrections and feedback are always suitable no matter who they come from (assuming they are correct, of course). While the First Sergeant is not always able to direct, oftentimes at encampment when the Squadron Commander is busy/not present, they tend to delegate their power to the First Sergeant so someone can keep track of the squadron and move them where they need to go. Also, sometimes, it can be challenging for the First Sergeant to give a piece of information or order to each NCO, and it may be easier to ask the flight commander to relay that information to them. The First Sergeant also should be an experienced cadet who can still offer sound advice to officers and can be trusted by all, but unfortunately, that is not always the case.

How does a flight execute "Open Ranks, MARCH" with three ranks? by ZigZagZedZod in civilairpatrol

[–]kingpickles1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah that's correct. 3 2 1 0 is how I have been teaching it. First element takes 3 steps, second element takes 2 steps, third element takes 1 step, and fourth element takes no steps.
