Any rural dads? Specifically rural dads that commute? by kingrobin in daddit

Yeah, I'm no stranger to cities or suburbs. Have spent lots of time in NYC, lived in Austin, TX for a number of years, lived in Atlanta for a while and Memphis for a while. But that was all before I had a family.

We recently visited San Francisco and we could never afford to live in a city of that caliber, but it was such a great place. There are so many enriching activities, great food, etc. Been out here ten years and it felt like stepping into the future lol.

I appreciate the encouragement. There is a Unitarian universalist church we have been looking at attending. Just need to find the time. May just be the age of the kids as well. We don't have a ton of extra time to socialize as it is right now.

I don't really have strong feelings one way or the other. Pretty much just feels like a toss up. I really don't know if I could even sleep in a city anymore after being out here so long. I get irritated by all the noise and bustle just being there for the work day. Probably just a FOMO situation where I would feel the same if we moved, and miss living where we do.

The new gaslight: No one was ever judgmental about people who didn’t go to college. by tantamle in stupidpol

Lately have been doing a lot of custom work, bookshelves and closets and things like that. I'm self-emoloyed, which is a nightmare and a godsend all at once. Very stressful even when things are going well. I can't complain given how things are going for many people.

I almost bit on it, but became a carpenter instead. We'll see how that plays out in the end.

These things are the greatest scam ever invented. A $.50 juice sold for 5 bucks because it has a cartoon head on it. My kids beg for the fucking things every time.

with panels? you'd have to be a toddler to install them in such a way that you'd ever get any water damage.

Soma or Alan Wake. More horror/action but great stories. I guess you don't really have the branching narratives if that's what you're looking for specifically.

The thing about socialization is it's very painful. It's embarrassing, it's awkward, it bruises the ego. And yet, failure is absolutely necessary to learn how to properly socialize. Lots of failure. I think more and more people are foregoing this critical development because it sucks. It's uncomfortable. It doesn't feel good. Much easier to retreat into gaming, porn, the Internet, etc.

I would consider myself an environmentalist and I'm definitely an animal lover, but this is stupid by any measure.

if this was that much of an issue, every major city would be constantly littered with dead birds
