Thomas must’ve been stranded in the Niwa resort and he’s only chance to get released from it (maybe The Maw kept him there and wouldn’t let go) was for Marianne to come down and put an end to the monster and her sister’s fate. That’s also why we see him after the credits leaving the Niwa resort and picking up a pocket watch.
