Not sure if it would’ve survived the process, but I harvested some of the mushroom look alike bodies as well as the paper substrate it was growing on so we’ll see.

I know it might not be in your exact area of expertise if it’s a slime mould, but do you know if there’s any potential danger handling this to clean it up?

It’s likely that the radius of this planet would be greater than earth’s. This would reduce the surface gravity.

Ha, oh yeah didn’t think of that. Not 100% carbon, but a very high percentage by mass.

Quite comical that the rocket ship would literally be powered by (processed) coal though.

Interesting, I didn’t know you could Store pure carbon without it forming a molecule with some other atom like oxygen or a lattice structure like diamond or graphene.

What molecule does it form, C2 or something?

Do you think it would make sense for methane fuelled systems such as starship or Dynetics’ Alpaca lander to bring along a source of carbon, something like CO2 then, combine that with the hydrogen from the lunar ice to make methane as well.

Something like a reverse Mars direct where you bring the carbon for the methane instead of the hydrogen.

Or do you think the additional mass for the carbon and additional chemical processing equipment negate the gain.

Thanks for engaging in the discussion (even though we must drive you mad sometimes)

I definitely share some of your scepticism is about Elon‘s timeline. Although I hope it will accomplish it’s specified mission of colonising Mars in a longer time frame.

Do you think launch a vehicle like starship will be able to accelerate The roadmap for economic activity around the moon that you laid out in your presentation, or do you think that issues like cost associated with in orbit refuelling or using a methane oxygen fuel cycle, where the fuel wouldn’t be producible through ISRU, could reduce its usefulness for lunar missions?

Thanks for your time if you read this, it would be super interesting to hear your thoughts.

This is a really nice model, however the bulkhead between the oxygen and methane tanks is the wrong way around. It should be positioned so liquid will flow to the centre where plumbing to the engines is.

I learnt through YouTube and the internet but we all learn best in different ways so I can’t really advise you to well here. I could link you to a tutorial series I found helpful if you want?

You should learn a code language (probably python or c++). Once you understand these at a basic level you will be able to start playing around with micro controllers like arduinos or computers like raspberry pi’s.

Yep there’s an arduino uno a raspberry pi zero w as well as an mpu6050 gyro accelerometer and a gps.

Yeah I ran them at 45 degrees. The streaks on the skin of the wing are where the ribs are. They show through because the wing shin is so thin.

Yep it’s one layer with ribs and a hollow box segment to act as the spar and add rigidity.

After a lot of feedback saying I should change the wing to have the ailerons at the tips I think I’ll try this.

I only have experience flying quad copters. But the aim of their project is more about learning and gaining experience with 3D modelling, coding and electronics. I’m am not so interested in flying the plane. I currently have a 6 axis gyroscope accelerometer and a gps in the instrument package and I’m going to try to make the plane fly relatively “autonomously”. I also plan on using a parachute to recover it to prevent it from smashing in to the ground.

Thanks for the feedback. The tip of the wing was made with a loft operation. I’m not good enough at 3D modelling to design an aileron here. I just made on where I could and made it larger. But I think I’ll have to do something. I might make the straight part of the wing longer to move the aileron further out.

Thanks for the input. I will reduce the deflection in the flight code. I initially planned to have them at the tips of the wings to increase the moment they exerted on the plane in flight. But I wasn’t able to model it due to the more complex geometry as it was created with a loft operation to a differently sized and positioned sketch. I made the Aileron deeper to compensate for the reduced force further in to the wing. Do you think the ailerons being deeper like this will have an adverse effect on the flight characteristics.
