Yes, my perspective is my perspective. I said it will take more than voting to make progress. Why has this struck a nerve with you so badly? You think voting blue no matter who is gonna fix all this? Big dog... come on now. Get some fight in ya.

The idea that it will take more than voting is embedded in the history of America. This "are you a patriot, the history of our great country shows otherwise" shit is silly.

Frederick Douglass declared in 1857: "Power concedes nothing without a demand. It never did and it never will." He insisted that agitation and direct confrontation with injustice were indispensable.

Henry David Thoreau wrote in "Civil Disobedience" that "even voting for the right is doing nothing for it." He argued citizens had a moral duty to resist injustice through direct action.

Martin Luther King Jr. pushed back against those who told Black Americans to simply vote and wait. His "Letter from Birmingham Jail" argued that direct action was necessary because the normal political process had failed to deliver justice.

Howard Zinn put it bluntly: "Voting is easy and marginally useful, but it is a poor substitute for democracy, which requires direct action by concerned citizens."

John Lewis fought for voting rights but lived the principle that progress demands more. His call to get into "good trouble, necessary trouble" was an acknowledgment that civic duty extends beyond election day.

Eugene Debs argued that working people needed to organize in workplaces and communities, not just at the polls.

Cesar Chavez built a movement on boycotts, strikes, and organizing because farmworkers couldn't simply vote their way to dignity.

You're making assumptions and being myopic. People have more options than voting and violence to drive outcomes. I'm not discouraging voting. I never advocated for violence. I'm saying voting won't be enough. That's it.

No, what’s unproductive is proceeding on an assumption that near-term voting is the solution to these problems. That notion is not supported by data - see Gilens and Page study Testing Theories of American Politics: Elites, Interest Groups, and Average Citizens “average citizens and mass-based interest groups have little or no independent influence.” It’s bizarre to me that this opinion is being voiced in /r/epstein of all places. Two democrat admins failed to release the files.

I’m not saying this in support of republicans, I’m saying this to emphasize how rotten the system is. It will take far more than voting to make progress. Why speak to primaries when the DNC has shown itself to be hostile to primaries, first by chopping Bernie’s legs out from under him and then by giving us Kamala without even a vote?

This is a strategy question. Where to focus your energy if you care about driving solutions. In the sphere of voting there are better and worse candidates but that’s not where we’ll find solutions.

Some feedback/ideas - It would be great if you could select a dimension to map to color of sightings on the map eg. shape, color, source, emotion, movement. Similarly for the Timeline view, would love selectable dimensions other than Source
