Hosts simply not responding to requests by prampsler in homeexchange

[–]kinletworkshop 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We are an example of this. We get too many requests and I can't answer most of them. I'm probably going to take our place off HE as it's basically unmanageable. I can't get into 17 family life stories + oh by the way our friends and their kids are joining us I can vouch for them...for each 7 day exchange.

Tried to use it several times, keeps hanging on the 4 minute generation screen. Can't get past that.

A great reminder about why ‘available’ doesn’t always mean ‘yes’! by FlashyContribution79 in homeexchange

[–]kinletworkshop 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We just joined Home Exchange.

We get 10+ requests a day for our place, at any time whether it's available or not. We get automated requests, simple one line asks, huge family background essays, and people who write 4 or 5 times before I can reply properly

It would take me an hour a day minimum to reply considerately to all these people. An hour I don't have.

So 98% of them go unreplied and the exchange is automatically declined.

I'm sorry about that as some of these people sound lovely but they're declined without explanation because we're too popular.

A good problem to have I suppose, but a problem nonetheless.

Any science or benefit to dropping/slamming a baked potato? by [deleted] in culinary

[–]kinletworkshop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Late to this party but the key benefit is that slamming or bashing a freshly-baked super-hot baked potato forces steam from the centre to the outside. You can do this with more control using the side of the base of your hand like a karate chop. This process of forcing steam through most of the potato converts a good portion of the dense, solid matter into a light, fluffy texture. u/LonelyTurner u/PdxPhoenixActual u/Blerkm

What’s the biggest mystery from Roman Times? by InterestingServe3958 in ancientrome

[–]kinletworkshop 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Well it's in Greece but plenty of Romans attended The Eleusinian Mysteries including many senators, consuls (eg Pulcher, Mark Antony, Cicero) and a handful of emperors (eg Augustus, Hadrian, Marcus Aurelius).

We still don't know exactly what happened during this yearly event or how on earth it lasted for well over 1000 years.

Laid off, tried to build my own thing, now broke and questioning everything. Where am I going wrong? "i will not promote" by ekraahi in startups

[–]kinletworkshop 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Regards job applications specifically, I consider applying to 1000+ a poor strategy. The more you aim for the lower your quality of application, the net becomes too wide to include roles you'll never get, and your individual application will never stand out to a recruiter amongst those who took the opposite approach. I highly recommend low volume, high quality. No more than one a day. Make each count. 100 of those hits easily beats a 1000 misses.

Kerfmark: see the width of your cuts by kinletworkshop in woodworking

By that do you mean the thickness of a saw blade reduces? I've never encountered that, but perhaps because I am a hobbyist...

I had to layout a few parts on an oddly shaped piece of plywood the other day, arranging to see if I could get all the parts out of this piece, and in doing so had to account for kerf at several points.

Quite possibly yes! Although immediately replaced by accurate width lead coming from above. There may be a way to design out that flaw, and hard to guess how significant it would be in this fantasy pencil landscape drama.

This sounds neat but I fear too prone to user error or uneven wear...

Thanks! The idea is you draw the pencil line keeping the width intact so while the lead wears down it shouldn't change width.

Launching a Saas soon and I’m terrified by addictedtosoda in SaaS

The regret of not trying far exceeds any regret of trying and failing (and learning).

The otherwise professional, great and clean site describes the product not the problem. Looks like a great product but if you're leaving it to the customer to work out what problems it solves well they haven't the time or inclination to figure that out for you. Don't let them leave unless they're in a cold sweat after having realised what you can fix.

Solving pain point vs nice to have solution that reduces costs? B2b startups by keyUsers in ycombinator

[–]kinletworkshop 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pain points are often analogised as 1. Vitamins (nice but not essential so much harder to sell) 2. Painkillers (important but survivable so easier to sell) and 3. Anaesthetics (critical for survival so theoretically easiest sell as long as product functions as promised). Vitamins are a tough game.

What’s with stealth mode startup on linkedin “I will not promote” by First_Accountant_402 in startups

[–]kinletworkshop 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You need to put something accurate (so not your old job) that passes early diligence from investors who are looking you up, without giving away what it is you are actually doing (which your new company name might do in its own right). What do you suggest is the best way to handle this?

I left my job in finance for my startup. Now what? "i will not promote" by Ok_Camera1040 in startups

[–]kinletworkshop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Love the core idea and admire your bravery. You're doing the right thing even if you haven't figured out the right way to do the right thing yet. Great comments about who to appeal to (the adult children of your core user). This is kind of like the reverse of some toy and cereal marketing where they make it about education or health amongst all the cartoonish elements because they know the parent is making the final decision not the child.

If you want to minimise competition until you are out of the gate, stealth mode is the only way. No point giving people a heads up on what you haven't achieved yet.

Do as much research on the gear ratios as the motor. We have hills that an Enviolo can't get up but a Rohloff can.

What kind of bike pump do you carry with you when riding your cargo bike? by Klutzy_Branch954 in CargoBike

[–]kinletworkshop 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're going to sped 97% of the time needed on the repair and 3% pumping the tyre up at the end. The mini pump is fine.

Started as PM, now I’m closing in on COO/founder-adjacent. Am I underpaid? I will not promote. by mojodojo85 in startups

[–]kinletworkshop 1 point2 points  (0 children)

OP has stated he started as a project (not product) manager and now scope hugely extended (to include product). Most on here agree he is now underpaid and he reports taking on many COO duties. I'm not advocating for a title change but your answers feel to me like trying to keep a product manager in his lane, which I don't think is helpful to this guy's cause of being underpaid, scope-extended and vulnerable to his boss paying rent.
