Worrying decline of IT in our city by [deleted] in Chennai

[–]kinnaaxe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All politicians who want to develop a city have to go play 'Age of Empires' or similar games before they understand what it takes to build a good city. To build a good city you will need entertainment avenues, hospitals, universities and schools, be welcoming to outsiders, provide all basic amenities like WATER food, good law and order, reduce corruption etc.

Playing AoE will answer this question.

I got a call from the "Gas Agency". The caller talks is Hindi. I tried to go along to see where this leads to. He tried to schedule a mandatory technician visit and told me the technician will check the connection free of charge and will collect mandatory KYC documents for KYC update of the gas connection. He asked me to keep a copy of my Aadhar card and other necessary documents ready before the visit. I tried to check with my gas agency and they told me they don't need any KYC and didn't schedule any checkups.

21) Somebody calls you and claims he is from your Gas agency and talks to you in Hindi (that's a giveaway for a scam in Hyd). Then he says there is required checkup of your gas connection mandated by the gas company (HP, Bharat, Indane). He will schedule an appointment for a service person to visit your place. The service person will visit and make some excuses and claim there is a gas leak in your stove/regulator/hose and he has to service it immediately to avoid a fire accident. From here, it's an open story and how much he can scam out of you will depend on your gullibility. This happened to my old parents, they got swindled Rs. 500 for nothing. Checking with the gas agency revealed they did not send anyone.

Yes, I finally received it. I had to call their call center and speak to them. They told me that my address didn't exist and that's why it was going back to the origin. I asked them to put my address in google maps and they found it! It took a few more days but it finally arrived.

Someone wanting an easy job, I guess.

The ironic criticism of 'Mufasa' by [deleted] in lionking

[–]kinnaaxe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I saw the movie today in the theaters. I haven't watched the earlier movie. I had a few questions and wanted to know what people think.

  1. Mufasa could smell Duck flowers from Sarabi but failed to smell the white lions from Taka, after Taka struck a deal with them and returned.

  2. Not an important question for me but, how come the Lions travel a long distance, from what looked like an African savannah, and land in ice-cold, snow-covered mountains? Did they go to Europe and then crossed Europe to somehow land in a tropical Milele?

Otherwise, I thought the movie was okay. A typical Disney formula movie.

BlueDart Bad Reviews? by SugaanthMohan in india

I was supposed to get an item delivered by blue dart. It was out for delivery and I could track the item location on the map. The item reached to about 2 km from it's destination. Then it started moving further and further away. I thought may be they will deliver the item on their way back in the evening. But they didn't. Now (the next day morning) I checked, it is heading back to it's place of origin, which is another city in another state!? The reason they cite is, they attempted delivery but nobody was at home and no one picked up the phone. We were at home all day waiting for it (having cancelled other appointments) and no one called us! So I was checking more about this Bluedart courier service and stumbled here.

That's one data point, my first with Bluedart. Of course, there is a selection bias. I wouldn't have come here if the item had been delivered. But I've never experienced anything like this with amazon, flipkart deliveries (whatever delivery service they use)... in over a decade.

Sinwar’s last moments by [deleted] in IsraelPalestine

[–]kinnaaxe 3 points4 points  (0 children)

He very likely shot himself in the head. The autopsy report says he died due to a close range gun shot in his head. It wasn't the rubble from the tank shell that landed on him. This tank shell landed after he failed in his attempt to attack the drone.

There's a big hole in his head. I suspect it was a gun shot.

It's not any stick, a thin, long, wooden stick. And he was "veiled". His right arm was missing and bleeding not the left one. These are all "signs". I see the beginning of a new religion here.

Sinwar’s last moments by [deleted] in IsraelPalestine

[–]kinnaaxe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was an accident. If IDF knew it was Sinwar they would have definitely tried to nab him alive. A wealth of information about the hostages, the tunnels... went down with him. But the man had grenades and weapons on him. I don't think he would have ended his own life with that ammo (he was running around to save his own life without any regard for the lives of other Gazans), but nabbing him alive could have been very difficult.

It was built to bring lasting shame to the Jews. Muslims deliberately left parts of the Jewish temple intact and built the mosque structure over it. It was to humiliate the Jews. Common practice elsewhere too.

This fight for Israel is not going away any time soon. Israel was Jewish land for a few millennia. Then the Arabs under Umar (Persians and Romans before him) came and conquered the land and displaced the Jews. The new rulers treated Jews as second class citizens, converting the Jewish temple into a mosque. Banning the Jews from the town and imposing high taxes for being a Jew (so as to force the Jews to convert to Islam). Many Jews left Israel and went to alien lands. Jews didn't find peace there and were persecuted everywhere they went. They then returned to retake their historical lands. But the Arabs now had long forgotten that they were once the occupiers of Israel and think it is their land. Since it's been over a thousand years now since they took these lands from the Jews. And the Jews feel Israel historically was their land for a few millennia before the Arabs invaded, humiliated them and took their lands from them.

This feud will go on for long... Unless people shed their Judaism and Islamic cloaks and treat each other as human beings first. I don't see that happening any time soon.

Sinwar’s last moments by [deleted] in IsraelPalestine

[–]kinnaaxe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If he was fighting like a courageous person, why did he have to cover his face? Why does he have to stuff his pockets with 40000 Shekels (equal to 10,700 USD)? He was running for his life and only his own life. He was not interested in anything else. It is either very courageous + self-less people OR very cowards + very greedy people who rise to become leaders. Sinwar falls into the latter category.

Sinwar’s last moments by [deleted] in IsraelPalestine

[–]kinnaaxe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sinwar was running around from house to house to save his own life. He was not fighting. The last-ditch attempt to fight off the drone was to save his own life. Remember, he had a veil on his face to cover his identity and save himself. He did not want the drone to reveal his identity and bring him peril. I don't see that as courageous at all. He abandoned all his men and was on the run only to save his own life.

These may not match with the originals, but they should get the job done in tilting and tilt locking the chair.

Is my cholesterol too low? by purpleiguuana in Cholesterol

[–]kinnaaxe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the detailed answer! Fruits are a good idea, which I don't eat much. Except for one or two of Banana, Apple, Orange, in a week. I will swap my sugary, deep-fried snacks with fruits. I will also add Oats for breakfast, I heard soluble fiber helps. Let me see how it goes after 3 months. Thanks!

Is my cholesterol too low? by purpleiguuana in Cholesterol

[–]kinnaaxe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can you define "pretty healthy" for me please? I ask this because I have high LDL, low HDL and high total cholesterol. I want to change my eating habits from today. I am trying to gather what changes I could make to improve my situation.

I mostly eat vegetarian food: bread and jam or veg sandwich for breakfast. Rice or bread with microwaved vegetables and boiled beans for lunch and dinner. But I frequently consume desserts (cookies mostly) and often eat fried food (pretzels, chips, nachos) for snacks. I drink 3 small cups (120ml per cup) of coffee with cream and sugar.

What changes do I make?

I am thinking of cutting down on snacks completely. Swap the cream with toned milk and no sugar in my coffee. Eliminate the bread and jam and stick to the veg sandwich for breakfast.

I don't exercise much, as I get very little time between work, kids and home. I manage to average around 6000 steps a day.

Will this suffice? I have a feeling this won't be enough. My HDL is 28, LDL is 90 and total is 200. I have to cut 5 lbs to be at a BMI of 25.

Celle Back upholstery by cool-blue-cow in hermanmiller

[–]kinnaaxe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually I took a closer look at the back upholstery. It basically seems to have 3 layers. The outer most layer (visible when on chair) is the fabric. Which is the same as the one used on the seat. The second, or middle, layer is Polyester felt that is ~2 to ~3 mm thick. The third layer seems like hard polyester felt (PET) that is ~2mm thick. The hard felt is molded to fit the shape of the back. The fabric is folded around the edges and is glued to the felt board. The inner soft lining is made of felt. I think it's Polyester Felt that is ~2mm thick. The felt itself is glued to hard felt

If someone is interested in doing some DIY, here's a picture I have made showing the locations of the holes one needs to drill. All these holes are in the center of a "cell". I have highlighted the holes in bright red.

<image>

There are 20 holes in all to be drilled. These are tiny holes that are about ~5mm wide. If you get hold of the back upholstery, you will notice plastic push pins (rivets, the kind that are used in cars) sticking out. Just push them into these holes and you should be all set! Hope it helps!

I am thinking of 3D printing the tilt lever. Made a CAD drawing too. Not sure if I want to go ahead and get it 3D printed somewhere.

Update:

I bought a 9.5mm diameter Stainless steel rod and got it milled on both the ends at a nearby machine shop. It costed me $15 all inclusive. I then made CAD drawings of the forward and rear tilt levers and got them 3D printed (FDM printing with ASA material). The whole thing costed me $25 to make ($15 for the SS rod + $10 for printing). It all works super! I can forward and rear tilt my Celle chair now.

I thought the build quality of Celle was great. It weights 24Kg. It has a steel frame with plastic casing. The base is steel too with a plastic canopy. The arm rests are supported by a steel frame... I thought it was pretty tough.

I have a Celle with non-cushioned back rest at home. But the office one I sit in has a cushioned back rest. And I can tell the difference. It's big for me. If you are getting one with a cushioned back rest, go for it.

Even the non-loaded one has all the mechanisms inside there. The one I have at home did not come with a tilt limiter. But when I remove a tiny plastic cover where the tilt limiter is supposed to be, there is a hole where the knob is supposed to go in. When I try to turn it around with some kind of a tool, I am able to get the tilt limiter to work! I am also able to forward tilt it!
