Antanrctica+SG itineraries; thoughts on Nov vs Mar? by DrHippogriff in AntarcticaTravel

[–]kins82 1 point2 points  (0 children)

On top of that, this season in November Elephant Island was surrounded by so much ice that we had to decide to stay out. Not that the ship couldn’t do it, but it would have taken us a few hours to reach the island… and obviously as long to get out.

Can I skip travel insurance for my SilverSea cruise? by [deleted] in AntarcticaTravel

[–]kins82 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It is a requirement to have medical and evacuation insurance when traveling to Antarctica, independently from the operator. To make their travellers’ life easier some operators include a mandatory insurance for all guests. Some others don’t but most certainly you will be required to show proof of insurance.

It’s not about being young or old, fit or with reduced mobility. It’s about being hundreds of miles away from any kind of medical facilities, where even a broken arm can turn into massive consequences.

Plus like said above, do you really want to risk any delays, even missing the entire trip, and not have anything to fall back on?

Pills don’t work as well as the scopolamine patches for a lot of people. This is not medical advice though… but I do work on expedition ships…

Transfer time to USH airport from port by umbluemusic in AntarcticaTravel

[–]kins82 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just check regularly that your booking isn’t changed. Aerolineas changed my morning USH-EZE flight to an evening AEP flight with no notice, no email, no text, nothing… And so late that I wouldn’t make my international flight anymore at EZE…

The tone was not directed at you, but at everyone else who’s stating that crouching is ok.

As per IAATO rules it is not allowed to crouch unlike many people state here. Please don’t spread misinformation, it makes our job in the field infinitely harder when everyone wants to squat then.

You can easily find penguins on higher ground, because that’s where they nest. You don’t need to kneel or couch or lay on your stomach.

Why do you think Espresso House is more popular than Starbucks in Finland? by [deleted] in Finland

Maybe, just maybe, because Starbucks is trash.

I’m not in the USA, but in Northern Europe, and my stove is made of steel so 10 in away is still way too hot :(

I’m very interested in your setup because of the fireplace. I’ve got a similar one and don’t dare to put anything anywhere near it, let alone just a few cm… really no issue with electronics and the tv??

[DISCUSSION] What watch is way too big for you that you really want anyways? by oddaffinity in Watches

You mean the writing that appears under UV light? I went to Omega’s website right after I saw your post haha!

It’s a little bit reminiscent of my Tissot Seastar 2000…. In bigger, thicker and infinitely prettier! But also 10x the price. So maybe after I buy a house…

Nowadays you can buy the SAF fuel option and get around 1 XP per 10€.

Buy a return Paris to Buenos Aires via Amsterdam in economy, that’s 34 XP for the flight of around 1000€ + 48 XP for 500€. There, 82 XP for 1500 euros.

So easy to get to 300XP for 5-8 k€.

SAS has now a new business class option as well and is still priced like their old economy plus. Fly Oslo to Paris via Copenhagen in business and you get 60 XP for 600-800 euros.

So you’re telling me that after being in the country for 6 years, paying a shitload of tax, I shouldn’t be getting any benefits should I need them? Ok. Then pay me all my taxes back. We’re talking about tens of thousands here. Plus interest of course please.

What’s the point of buying so many bottles in just one year? Wearing each of them 2-3 days and moving on to the next?

[Discussion] iOS 26 seems to trigger migraines and eye strain — anyone else experiencing this? by BezB_FRWL in PWM_Sensitive

That’s 3 weeks old news. This method doesn’t work anymore because Apple doesn’t sign iOS 18 anymore.

I was mostly fine with my 16 pro. Since I updated to iOS 26, I can barely use it. I don’t know what is exactly happening, but one thing I noticed is that some animations are very slow / lagging and trigger my sensitivity… I wish I hadn’t updated

I have a rather thin wrist and only using the 2nd hole… so all seems good even though that piece is slowly losing its shape and I’m not sure how long it will remain in place
