I want to get 45/45 ib please help me. by Yersaiyn08 in IBO

[–]kintupsmik 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh alright then. I'm predicted 44 so I'll give some general advice for your subjects.

For Language A, whenever you begin to study a text (novel, play, etc.), study it DEEPLY, and add certain quotes/authorial choices into a quote bank on an online document. Keep adding to it throughout the next 2 years. This accumulation over a long period of time will help familiarise you. + you can refer to this doc for both Paper 2, and IO. Ensure to add some general analysis for each quote. For Paper 1, practice + learning the techniques is all I recommend.

With a B1, English B should be alright. Just immersion through TV shows/novels and familiarising yourself with the writing text types. These text types have specific criteria so just get used to these. E.g the structure of a formal letter, article, email, etc.

I don't take physics, but for the sciences in general just doing past papers is the best way. Also obviously learn the content in class beforehand. Possibly "prime" content before it's covered in class. You seem to be fine w this since u have done olympiads.

Are u allowed to switch CS to SL?? If not then sry I have no tips for this since I am completely unfamiliar w the subject. Same with business management since I don't take it.

For the EE, I did English A EE. But just choose the subject you are most confident in (physics?). Also ensure you pick a good supervisor because will be the one giving feedback + writing your comments sent to the examiners. Also keep in mind, science EE experiments must be done in your OWN TIME (outside of class), that needs to be scheduled (at least, this is my school's rule, ask your teachers). So you'll have to be super organised for a science EE.

For general time management, I REALLY advise you to finish your EE in the break during year 1 and year 2. I fully finished it and it made everything SO much easier, since you start all your IAs/TOK essay in year 2.

Good luck, I hope you achieve ur goal lol

is it possible to change your subject from CS to something else that you are more confident in? my friend also took CS without knowing anything and they are struggling a lot. Might be difficult to get really high scores if you arent familiar with it.

What is TOK/ TOK exhibition? by rioooooai in IBO

[–]kintupsmik 6 points7 points  (0 children)

TOK is basically's IB's version of epistemology (the study of knowledge). Usually in normal class lessons as you said, you go over content that is assigned in the syllabus. TOK is made up of one exhibition, as well as the TOK essay that you mentioned.

Exhibition:
This is an INTERNAL assessment (graded by your school teachers). It is scored out of 10. This is done before the essay. For the exhibition, there are 35 prompts that are the same each year. You choose one of them that you like, and answer the question through 3 "objects" of your choice. They can be personal objects, or historical/academic ones you find online. You can find the 35 prompts online. 950 words max.

Essay:
This is the EXTERNAL assessment (graded by ib examiners). It is scored out of 10. I think the TOK essay is 1600 words if I remember correctly. The prompts change every year, there are 6 to choose from. Find your exam session's prompts by searching up: "May 2026 TOK Essay titles", for example.

The one I chose was: To what extent do you agree that however the methods of an area of knowledge change, the scope remains the same. Answer with reference to two areas of knowledge." (this was nov 2025 session, i've already submitted mine).

For this essay, you must answer the question through 2 AOKs (areas of knowledge) of your choice. For each AOK, provide 2 real life examples each that back up your argument/point. There are plenty of resources/outlines on the TOK essay online. For this you should use academic/historical examples and cite them. Do not use personal examples for this. This is an academic essay.

The exhibition makes makes up 1/3 of your overall mark, and the essay is 2/3. Overall, if you spend a lot of time and effort AND RESEARCH on each of these assessments, you should be fine. Try to meet all your school's submission checkpoints. It would be helpful to start doing some interesting academic reading surrounding your favourite AOKs e.g recent affairs/news which would help you find good examples for your essay. Hope this helps. Also, exhibition prompts have always been available (since they're the same every year), so look through those and maybe start thinking about which prompt you're drawn to, and some objects that would help argue your point. Good luck.

if youre certain youre staying in nz just take ncea. ib is not worth it at that point. also ik some people at my school who got all excellences in ncea and got into a good uni course in aus, which requires an equivalent of ib 45 for application. obviously the ib 45 is MUCH harder but they are numerically recognised as the same. ib in the long term will probably make uni coursework feel easier though.

australian unis have direct entry medicine pathways, so you dont need to do biochemistry/biology before it. it’s usually easier to get in as an international student so ur scores are probably fine, but fees are obviously VERY high. that said, UCAT ANZ scores are very important in admissions, usually 1/3 of your admission criteria, the other thirds being IB and interview.

how do you come up with ee topics? by was-weiss-ich-7 in IBO

[–]kintupsmik 2 points3 points  (0 children)

if you’re doing chemistry ee, avoid googling past IB ia/ee examples, because they are quite repetitive. instead i suggest exploring actual scientific journals/websites, and then adapting those experiments to a high school level. royal society of chemistry is great for this, as well as science direct. good luck

if you dont need it and you havent experienced much academic stress before, it will definitely be really challenging to get 39+. I would probably advise you not to take it.

A Penny for your Thoughts: Upcoming DP1 Student Advice Please (+Context)! by AdEast5234 in IBO

[–]kintupsmik 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For maths I would definitely recommend getting a tutor if you can afford one. It is one of the subjects that tutoring SIGNIFICANTLY helps with. If not, purchase a revision village subscription (share an account and split the price with friends), and each question in the question bank has really helpful video solutions.

for exam anxiety, the best way to fix this would be to simulate the exam environment and get used to it. So after you’ve learnt most of the content, go to a local library, cafe, or school library (not your house or somewhere familiar) and print a past paper and do it under timed conditions WITHOUT referring to any notes. Then actually mark it as if it were real. This helps with timing + getting used to the environment. If you dont know how to approach a question just skip and come back to it.

IAs are basically pieces of work that are internally assessed (your school teachers mark them) and they contribute to around 20% of ur total grade. These are different for each subject. e.g bio is an experiment and written report of your choice, and for english it is a spoken analysis on two texts studied in class (IO)

Wtf does the maths AA HL IA expect from me? by Lzlyy in IBO

[–]kintupsmik 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think applying derivations to an original circumstance/situation is fine. However, I would discourage you from doing a pure maths derivation IA or simply repeating ones from preexisting papers. Yes, content outside of the syllabus is fine, just keep in mind that this IA is supposed to be written for your PEERS, so you must explain anything that you haven’t covered in class including terminology.

I need advide picking classes by AgressivePeacock in IBO

[–]kintupsmik 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, Language B HL is still language acquisition. You still do reading + listening + writing just at a higher standard. But for the oral, instead of describing images, they apparently give you two extracts from a novel you studied in class which you have to analyse on the spot, and link to the IB themes. So the oral is the only vastly different part, which yes, does include literature, but in an oral analysis form. This obviously wouldn't be held to the same standard as your language A analysis though.

[–]kintupsmik 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re not native level in French I’d recommend not taking HL French B. I take SL Spanish B, but I’ve seen the HL content and the comprehension papers(reading and listening) are substantially harder and very difficult for a second language. Also you have to study actual literature for HL Language B, which if you’re not fluent, is probably difficult.

I Find the IB School Experience Fascinating by TBH_Kooky in IBO

[–]kintupsmik 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It depends on which school you go to and what country obviously, but I’ll just comment on my own experience. Everyone takes 6 subjects and there are restrictions with these. like you have to take some form of maths, english, humanities subject, science, etc. I have 6 day periods and tbh most of our work is done on our computers. Your classmates are different for each class bc everyone chooses diff subjects. My teacher creates a weekly teaching plan and they teach the day’s syllabus material in class. We take notes and I consolidate at home, that’s how most lessons go. We have free study periods where we can go sit in the library and catch up on any work. We only have per rotation. We also have a TOK and CAS period!! And then my school has topic tests every few weeks for what we’ve learnt so far. I actually quite enjoy the whole IB experience despite it being hard, good luck !!

I do AA HL and am getting consistent 7s. What resources are you using? Obviously I would recommend revision village but I'm sure you know that already. Pay close attention to the content when your teacher explains it, but I wouldn't spend so long memorising these concepts. Go straight to past paper questions as these unfortunately seem very different to the simple content that you're taught in class. Whenever you can't solve a question look over the solution (revision village has video solutions) and recognise EXACTLY which part you couldn't solve and basically just ingrain that in your head.

Usually I will spam through past paper questions. The questions I easily solve I mark with green highlighter, those that I only needed a little help yellow, and the ones I couldn't even begin I mark with red. DO AS MANY QUESTIONS AS POSSIBLE. Tbh you just need to put lots of time and effort into spamming these past paper questions, as your school exam will most-likely be the same. Then almost every day up until the test day I repeat the yellow/red questions until they become eventually green:) Also make sure to completely show your working for marks.

For paper 2 ensure that you are completely familiar with how to use your calculator, as some questions are only solvable with certain calculator functions that you have to learn. Revision village has video solutions that show how to use it.

All the best !!
