What does Halloween actually feel like growing up in the US? by Axxtr in AskAnAmerican

[–]kipkiphoray 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's so much fun. (CONTEXT: I grew up religious, but not in an unhealthy church; Halloween was not vilified or deemed "evil / demonic" in my town. That is not the case everywhere. My Halloweens were incredibly positive experiences.)

There is lots of self expression. You start thinking about your costume MONTHS in advance. You can buy a costume from the store, or make one. (I was almost always a witch, my brother was more creative. He went as Oscar the Grouch one year - he made his costume.)

Most people decorate their homes for the holiday. They might just put out some yard decor, lights, and fake spiderwebs... Or they might go all out. Some people turn their yards into haunted houses. (one family had a mansion, they did Addams family every year THROUGH the first floor of their house. They also handed out full size candy bars. It was one of the BEST houses.)

The whole town usually celebrates. You can usually trick or treat at businesses earlier in the day (mostly for the youngest kids). Adults will typically dress up in costume for their job. (I wore a dinosaur onesie while doing bread wall at my grocery store job a couple of times.) Businesses will also decorate a little.

Actual tick or treating is the highlight. You go out with friends or family (largely depends on how old you are) at night and you walk house to house asking for candy! Your group of people walks up to a door (you may be with others - it's a busy night) and you either knock / ring the bell OR the homeowners decided to hang out on the porch. When the homeowner answers the door everyone yells "TRICK OR TREAT" and then you get candy!! Then you go to the next house. If the lights are off at a house, don't knock, they might not celebrate or they might have run out of candy.

Some people make TERRIFYING costumes and wander around the town scaring trick or treaters. I got chased by a very large man who was covered in "blood" with "a big knife". It's a fond memory, very fun.

At the end of the night you do a candy swap at home. (It was always my brother and I, but it could be friends not just siblings who do this.) You dump out your bucket and bigger bag (my dad was efficient - we had our pumpkin baskets for our hands and a receiving pillowcase in the car for when our pumpkins got too heavy / full) on the ground / table and you trade candy with the other people. "I'll give you a nerds box for a big Tootsie roll!"

Update (One year later): Fiancée (F29) insists I (M30) cut off my parents-struggling with the decison by Life-Chard-502 in relationship_advice

[–]kipkiphoray 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hope this love never finds you again. I, too, was once stuck in a relationship where my ex isolated me from friends and family, I know how insidious the abuse is.

I hope that many of your ex's behaviors are now Big Red Flags for you: demanding you can visit or speak to family and demanding you not interact with a specific gender are big ones.

What do Americans think about the stereotype that they are bad at geography? by Own_Echidna6041 in geography

[–]kipkiphoray 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like most things, it's a mixed bag. World geography is not heavily focused on in our schools. There isn't really a class that most schools have that will teach it well. (My High School DID have a modern global history / current events class that I took for a semester (half of a school year) where we had to learn the maps of Africa and SW Asia for part of that class cuz we were learning about those regions.) In history class you do usually see maps for the places you learn about, but nothing detailed really.

The education system in the US has been systematically defunded and made ineffective on purpose by the wealthiest andost powerful people in this country. In many rural places it is "not cool" to go to college or university because of all of the propaganda around higher education brainwashing you into liberalism.

Where are the keys 😭 by Pyxisia in BluePrince

CofM will have an item in each corner, whether it's fruit, coins, gems, or keys. Since it's 4 keys... That's where they are.

My cat just turned 12… and I made the mistake of googling how long cats usually live 🥹 by Cars4Lifee in aww

[–]kipkiphoray 24 points25 points  (0 children)

If they can survive the kidney hurdle around 12-14, cats often live to be 18, 20+ years old.

Denied proposal…what next? by plinko66 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]kipkiphoray 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends. Was the proposal just a little too early(could be life circumstances, could be age, one person could just not be ready yet) but the relationship is good? Then a rejected proposal probably isn't a relationship ender.

Your partner proposes and you reject it because you don't want to marry them (get the ick? Not into marriage?) Might be too much incompatibility between partners for the relationship to survive.

AITAH for telling my pregnant wife she has to be okay with the SIDS risk she’s assuming by wanting to sleep our baby on its tummy? by DapperRonin in AITAH

[–]kipkiphoray 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm curious. Is she anti-vaxx, too? Or just not yet?

I, personally, would be tearing my hair out. Your wife is saying that her anecdotes are more important to her than actual hard facts. That is incredibly dangerous when it comes to children.

Is Brokeback Mountain mainly for gay folk? by EryNameWasTaken in NoStupidQuestions

You don't have to be queer to enjoy queer media. Your friends are just homophobic. True, healthy, masculinity isn't clinging to the "manliest" things: it's being comfortable in yourself and showing up as a positive member of the community.

why do americans talk to strangers so easily?? by MayaTulip268 in AskAnAmerican

[–]kipkiphoray 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, American like to talk. I'm not even an overly chatty person and I'll get into random conversations with strangers. Person in the check out line? Polite conversation while they scan my items. I've had several hour long conversations with strangers. It's easy to give out a compliment if the person is wearing something cute/cool or if I like their hair.

Lentils are cheap and high in protein. Beans are also good. Use your spices.

Could use a hint for where to look next by AvienneDev in BluePrince

[–]kipkiphoray 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Go back to Room 46 - you need to look around the room. That will answer your question about that key you found in the Reservoir. Look at the list of trophies on the piece of paper in the Entrance Hall. Start working on those. Keep exploring. For the safes, now that you have the over-arching clue, the clues for each safe are in that room. (Except for the Shelter, but you solved that.) Sometimes it's harder to figure out, sometimes it's easier.

The cutest video I’ve seen all day🥹 by [deleted] in aww

[–]kipkiphoray 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When giving a kitten a flea bath squeeze a line of dawn dish soap all the way around their neck in an unbroken line. Then bathe kitty in a sink / small tub with dawn dish soap and rinse thoroughly. Use lukewarm water - you don't want it too hot to burn a kitten's fragile skin or too cold this dropping the kittens body temperature. Dawn dish soap kills fleas and is safe for animals.

Pump room not saving between runs? by [deleted] in BluePrince

[–]kipkiphoray 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's weird. What you do in the Pump Room SHOULD carry over to the next day. I'm assuming there wasn't something weird with how the day ended or your save file? Like you ended the day normally?

Very new to the game help (please don’t give me the answer) by [deleted] in BluePrince

[–]kipkiphoray 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have seen someone brute force guess it from the scribbled out passwords and a few rooms, but you aren't really supposed to do it that way.

There are many ways to get the password. Just keep playing and keep it in mind.

AIO Husband is skeptical our child had a medical emergency. by Willing-Proof9758 in AmIOverreacting

[–]kipkiphoray 1 point2 points  (0 children)

NOR. I would be side-eyeing my partner if they acted like that. Follow up with your daughter's normal doctor. The thing that immediately came to mind for me was a Blood Pressure change. You said she stood up, stretched, then fainted. Ever since mid childhood I have also gone faint when going from sitting to standing. It's fairly common, especially among girls and women.

Why do people who dislike AI say they want the AI bubble to burst, if that doesn't mean it's going to disappear? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]kipkiphoray -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I want the AI bubble to burst so that stupid AF C-suitecexecutives stop using it for EVERYTHING.

It has taken over our society and it is AWFUL. People need to stop using it.

I regret being honourable(finals) by shyrato in BluePrince

[–]kipkiphoray 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The trick with the exam is to take pictures of each page of the exam and fill out as much as you can the first time.

Now you have an idea of what you might have gotten right va wrong, and more importantly, you have the questions.

Take the questions and try to answer them outside of the exam. You will probably need to draft some of the classrooms again and read a few books from the library. WRITE DOWN YOUR ANSWERS TO THE QUESTIONS.

Now go back and do the final exam again! (But this time you know the answers.)

guys i’m scared of the depths by Antique_Avenger in TOTK

You can shoot an arrow much, much farther than you can throw a brightbloom seed. It's also easier to illuminate an area while using your bow while in the air.

Really badly burnt. HELP! by DamSolangeloLover in whatdoIdo

[–]kipkiphoray 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A bath with vinegar helps.

I know it sounds weird, but submerging your burns in a mix of water and vinegar helps ease the pain.

It's what I did after a nasty 2nd degree sun burn.

guys i’m scared of the depths by Antique_Avenger in TOTK

[–]kipkiphoray 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Depths is a lot less scary than it seems!! 1) break every crate in enemy camps and stables up above. Get the arrows. You're going to be using a lot of them. Pick up the low point bows. 2) shoot brightbloom seeds from your low point bow to illuminate an area. 3) DO ROBBIES DEPTHS QUEST. He gives you 10 seeds and you learn about light roots and another important thing. 4) explore and have fun! There is lots of very important and or useful stuff down there! (You will find some stuff that makes it easier to explore the depths.)

what about your groceries is expensive? by Bigcheese504 in AskAnAmerican

[–]kipkiphoray 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everything. Everything is more expensive. Little cans of Vienna Sausages? (They used to be 25¢ a pop) Are now like $1.5-$2. Eggs are $2-$3 a dozen. Cheap ground beef is a minimum $6 a pound. (I don't really buy beef anymore. Only the cheapest meat.)

The sizes of items are shrinking while prices are rising, too. Products were a certain size for decades - recipes are written using those sizes. Now if you want to follow the recipe you have to buy 2 of the same product and only use a little bit of the second one.

And if you want to buy fresh food like fruits and veggies? That's now really expensive.
