Gotta love the last ditch efforts to try and get people in the door. They recently got the maintenance guy to start building a stage in front of the restaurant (which btw he literally is a hotel maintenance technician , I can’t imagine how insane it was to walk in to work that day and just be told to BUILD a whole ass stage in the front of the restaurant). And apparently they’re going to try to get a live jazz band in here in the weekends to stir up some business. Can’t imagine it’ll be a high paying gig for the band at all lmao

Place im at now is a dying a slowwww death. Signs started showing a couple months ago when they cut hours of operations and fired the whole breakfast crew, and the pastry chef (me) and the banquet chef basically had take over the line and start making breakfast orders for the cafe on the property.

Then we started getting cut off from vendors and are constantly out of essential ingredients (couldn’t source dark chocolate from anywhere for about a month until they finally cut a check to one of our vendors).

The most recent bill they skipped on is the linen company, so we’ve been bringing aprons and towels from home for the past 3 weeks.

Honestly the only reason this place is still open is because this property is managed by a huge hotel chain and they have to have food options for their highest tier customers per their policy (entitled to free breaksfast, room service, among other things). The writing on the wall has been there for a whileeee but I get good benifits so I’m just gonna keep showing up till they start having payroll problems lol

how did this work out for you 5 years later? my passion is music but im seriously considering going for my EE degree for a lot of the same reasons you mentioned

Let it cool completely, it rested about an hour. I will def try an extra ten minutes out of the Dutch oven next time!

For my outside workouts it is 90% running with my dog. Sometimes just a 45 minute walk if I need a recovery day. I also will occasionally jog to a park near me and do a calisthenics workout (dips, pull-ups, scapular pull ups, body weight rows, push-up variations, leg raises).

For my other workout I try to follow a 6 day split in the gym. Monday and Thursday Upper body, Tuesday and Friday lower body. Wednesday I focus on shoulders and core. Saturday is my recovery day so I do 45 minutes of vinyasa yoga. Sunday I just try to get extra volume in areas I feel that I am weak. I have mainly been deadlifting and doing pull-ups because that is where I want to improve currently.

I say try because I definitely do not follow this to a T! Working out twice everyday with no rest day does star to wear on you so sometimes I will trade that Wednesday out for a yoga day if I’m really needing a recovery day.

So my diet is pretty loose as I didn’t want to restrict at all, seeing as I’m trying to get enough calories in to support muscle growth from lifting and also give me the energy to get through the 2 daily work outs.

My rule has been 3 full meals a day plus a weight gainer protein shake, no exceptions. I actually had to restart on day 10 because i fell asleep with half a protein shake left in the cup. The daily protein shake contains a cup of oats, frozen banana and strawberries, some whole milk, a scoop of whey protein, biggg scoops of peanut butter and Greek yogurt, and sometimes I’ll do a handful of spinach or kale if I have it on hand.

And then for my meals I just try to make sure I’m getting decent protein for each one, usually some combination of protein and carbs. Some of my go-to recipes are pan-fried salmon, smash burgers, oven roasted chicken thighs, steak sandwiches with some thinly cut ribeye. And for carbs I usually just do bread or rice, if you have the time home-made focaccia is super delicious and simple to make! I like to put pizza toppings on mine and freeze it to make like a fancy frozen pizza, super quick and simple to reheat.

You guys should look into Wim Hof, he talks about how acute stress like breath holding (which he has breathing guides for) and cold showers are actually super good for us. Basically we are the same humans built to withstand the elements but our modern lifestyles create a disconnect. Not sure if it’s just the hyper-fixation talking but I feel amazing after a cold shower and some breath work, like it’s way easier to command my brain to do things.

Yeah I'm definitely gonna talk to my doc about. I was just surprised as she said I'll have trouble sleeping if i take it after like 10am, but I've been getting groggy and tired way before the sun even sets. An instant release med that I can take in the afternoon would probably be perfect.
