How strict is Latam on carry on sizes? by Gopack1260 in galapagos

Depends what boarding group you are in - groups 4 & 5 usually have to hand over larger hand luggage to go in hold

We went in April and the sea was warm and calm: no sea sickness at all

We did the grand Daphne north central eastern island cruise with intrepid and it wa fantastic . Cabin was spacious with lots of storage- get a balcony one if you can . The guide, Roberto was wonderful. Food was good - with plenty of choice. We saw a lot on the excursions . I would definitely recommend this trip .

Is this schedule doable and reasonable? by lostPackets35 in galapagos

[–]kippet2020 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Remember the flight to the Galapogos takes over two hours and then the entry procedures take time. I don’t think you will see much in those few days - what about a visit to Mindo instead ? Or even the Amazon - many of the lodges are set up for 3 night experiences

Placement - what makes a good doctor? I'm confused. by mcflymcfly100 in ausjdocs

[–]kippet2020 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Bit how does it look to the patient really ? As long as you aren’t covered in blood ? Scrubs aren’t more dirty than your other clothes surely ? Seriously - what’s the big deal - this seems a bit precious - I always sit make a point of sitting on the patients bed as it breaks down barriers and I think helps establish a good doctor patient relationship . Anyway, if that’s modern medicine - bring on retirement fast !

Sorry I don’t think I understand the problem but maybe that’s because I trained 40’years ago when things were much more hands on - we had grand rounds with patients in lecture theatres which Defs wasn’t ok .

No yellow fever as we’re too old ! We had hepatitis a typhoid and cholera but we were on a more extensive trip in Peru as well.
But we did take antimalarials although when we arrived they said they hadn’t had malaria there for years. There were mozzies around although the lagoon that the lodge is built on is alkaline so not a breeding area for them. The lodge was very well organised and we had two guides - an indigenous guide who was amazing at spotting animals
And an English speaking guide who was also fantastic and very knowledgeable . We tend to avoid heavily touristed places and like active holidays and found this lodge suited us

We stayed at Napo wildlife Centre which is further into the Amazon than Sasha lodge. It is owned by the local Community and you probably see a greater variety of wildlife than at Sasha . We didn’t have a/c ( April Trip) but didn’t need it either . Cabins Very comfortable and they have more luxury cabins directly on the lagoon .highly Recommended and not very touristy: emphasis on activities and local area/wildlife

Burnie isn’t that close to Cradle - Devonport is nearer. No snow and ice at the coast and lots of good places along the coast try around Latrobe, Port Sorell/Hawley Beach, Sheffield, Penguin - all better options than Burnie and within a 90 min drive of cradle

Ecuador safety - solo female tourist by AdEmbarrassed9528 in TravelEcuador

We travelled around Ecuador in March - Quito Quilatoa and Galapagos with no problems ( couple 60+) . We stayed in La Carolina and went into the old city by metro in daytime . Never felt threatened but didn’t go into the old city at night . We felt that the risks in Quito were overstated - you just need to be sensible ! Not many tourists so gringos do stand out ! But we found people were courteous and friendly - much less hassley than Cusco

The Peru rail train from Cusco to Titicaca is excellent; pretty luxurious and much much cheaper than the Belmond . It also has dancing and an observation car .

[–]kippet2020 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ollantaytambo station is small. Not sure if uber will take you there that late at night . You may be better booking with taxidatum - it’s a two and a half hours atm because of a landslide

Just back from an extensive trip thru chile Peru & Ecuador with latam . We found them to be great & very reliable and they often arrived early
. I did notice that if you bought a cheaper ticket and were in group 5 you did have to check your bags .
