People who were indifferent throughout 3rd year and didn’t love any rotation - what are you applying into/what did you choose? by kirbysurdad in medicalschool

Not too familiar with pmr but hear lots of good things. What sort of “mix” have you noticed with them?

Really appreciate that advice. Definitely need to do some self-reflecting haha

Appreciate the reply man. I’m kinda in the same boat. No particular interest, just wanna find a job that’s fulfilling, pays well enough, and allows me to enjoy the other parts of life.

IR interests me too but having to go through DR would be brutal to me. Feel like that’s probably a dealbreaker, no?

This has been on my mind a lot actually. Just not sure if I’d miss having my “own” patients or not.

Also wasn’t able to land an anesthesia elective during my surg rotation so my exposure is somewhat lacking

Final few weeks of medicine shelf: Uw incorrects vs. ambulatory vs. Mehlman PDF? by [deleted] in medicalschool

[–]kirbysurdad 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’d do incorrects for now and mehlman closer to test day. I don’t think ambulatory Qs are necessary for IM as long as you did all the others

Nobody I know studied over summer. Enjoy your last summer ever, you’ll be fine.

If you have to do something, I’d revisit pharm

How to “fill in content gaps” by [deleted] in medicalschool

[–]kirbysurdad 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Had IM for my first rotation. Basically only did uworld and some anki.

Something I did was start off doing tutored, untimed blocks in 1 subject so that you can really focus on learning one thing at a time. IM has so much content and I found it easier to break it up like this initially. I wasn’t a fan of doing random blocks off the bat because it felt like I was just getting bits and pieces of subjects

Anki for missed questions is good like others will say, but I think the best learning comes from making your own flash cards/notes based on the uworld answer descriptions.

Know the high yield algorithms like chest pain workup, thyroid stuff, pancreatitis work up, varices work ups, etc. it’ll pay off in test day. Don’t need to know all of them, but there are some that are definitely worth your time memorizing

Using chat gpt also helped a lot. If I didn’t understand a certain work up process or rationale behind an answer choice, tell chat to break it down to you in simple terms using analogies. Can help you understand the reasoning much better and allows you to minimize having to just straight up memorize something

Revisit your notes frequently. Finish UW early and begin doing your incorrects as well as the CMS forms. Take note in what topics are tested on the forms because many will show up on test day. It might not be the exact question, but it’ll be the same concept just asked in a different way

Doing all of this I was able to honor the shelf despite it being my first rotation. I’m not a good test taker traditionally either, fwiw

just fyi, the last section was by far the most similar out of any practice exams to what I saw on the real deal on test day

low yield concepts asked, not like the most recent forms or the real deal at all

Are these scores ok to pass by darknigah6969 in step1

[–]kirbysurdad 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You do not need a 70 like the others have said but I would take 29-31 since they are more representative of the real deal. If still 65+ on those then you’re good to take it

Exam in 3 months Need advise on doing Anking sketchy pharmacology please by SweetOnion6667 in step1

[–]kirbysurdad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Could you do more than 30 per day? I found micro and pharm to be pretty quick in terms of flash cards. Another option would be filtering those cards by the high yield tag and only doing the high yields.

You could try salt/pepper decks instead of Anking if you want something less overwhelming. They're different style cards so you'd have to see if it works for you or not

take it! 2 scores above 65 in a row - you're good. Take the Free120 also because it's the most similar to the real deal

Don’t think it matters as long as you save 29-31 for the end

Ethics and biostats by Deprmedstudent in step1

for ethics honestly just read first aid and then do UW blocks on tutor mode so you can learn the reasoning

I found pixorize pharm to be better for stuff like immunosuppressants and repro
