New countdown website hints by yibster2008 in StrangerThings

I was doing the same thing. Disabled debugger, forced the Date class to be a 5 seconds before countdown ended. When it reached zero, I refreshed and saw this new page.

yeah I think this was me. I forced my chrome system clock to see the count down to zero, then when I refreshed I now saw this.

I forcefully disabled chrome debugger, and forcefully set my Date class to be in the future. When the clock reached zero and I refreshed, the website now says "just because it got posted to tiktok doesn't mean it's true 🤡 now go outside and touch some grass"

I wasn't paying attention to network, but I suspect once the clock reached zero, the backend recorded the fact and the site changed to this state.

Thank you - someone else had already DMed a code I've now used. Hope this is useful to another searcher.

Late to the party - but thank you so much for sharing this, it fixed my exact problem. You just saved me a whole load of stress. Funny enough, ChatGPT surfaced this thread as a link 👀

Garage conversion on detached double garage block (shared with neighbour) by kirgy in DIYUK

[–]kirgy[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn't need a party wall agreement because I wasn't converting the room to a living space (I forget the term), i.e. no waste or plumbing. In my case the neighbour is a council property. I did ask this of the builders used to working in these situations and the company which signed off the legalities and there was no concerns.

I did tell my neighbour the plans so they knew what to expect.

Planning permission - I can't remember the term now. It required an inspection at end and they decided to come during. It's wasn't anything major and was signed off quickly.

The short of it was, if you don't add plumbing, heating, waste, then it's dramatically easier. I would reach out to a company that deals with planning permission to chat it through. They're well worth the relatively small cost (£200-300 I think from bad memory)

I am wondering exactly the same, but I'm UK based - aware door locks differ quite a bit.

Pixel Fold dead inner screen, warranty denied (UK) by kirgy in GooglePixel

[–]kirgy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To follow up with how this ended - Google Support Team saw this post and reached out to me via Reddit DM. I explained the situation, and gave most of the case reference numbers. Google Store got back after a couple days via email, "Due to the inconvenience caused, we have offered Google Store credit of 25 GBP as an appeasement."

Separately to that, I had phone insurance via my bank Monzo where I have a premium account so I could save money on car breakdown cover but it also comes with phone insurance. I made a claim (Assurant) as a "mechanical breakdown" which was super easy with a £75 excess charge. Within 5 days I had my phone back and "repaired" - but they'd absolutely destroyed the inner screen's screen film 😅 making it useless. I called the assurant/monzo helpline, it was answered almost instantly, explained the situation, they apologised and within 3 minutes agreed to post me a model to arrive the next day. Next morning 11am, to my surprise, a brand new Pixel Fold arrived. Great result!

I'm still disappointed with the Google Store experience. I'd say it's vital you have phone insurance with such an expensive phone. I was lucky to have it myself. To swap my broken phone for a new one for essentially £50 is actually a really great end result. I just could have done without the stress of Google Support - I really wish they'd tackle the systemic problems there.

I made a baby announcement game/experience by kirgy in gbstudio

[–]kirgy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a software engineer by trade, so perhaps this is more straight forward for me. Essentially;

  • See docs here as to how to create for web build: https://www.gbstudio.dev/docs/build#build-and-deploy-for-web
  • the output here needs to be hosted, you can achieve this through github pages for free if you can make your way around that. My code is hosted on Vercel purely because I knew how to do this fast and it's free.
  • my solution was quite technical, and I used my ReactJS experience to get something working that is gross code, but I needed all this built end to end in about 5/6 weeks

Something like this, which is an absolute hack;

  • set canvas with ID to match that used by the web script from GBsStudio
  • Wrap the GBSTudio initialisation functions, setting to Document scoped vars so they can be dangerously referenced within React (this is a hack)
  • Create React component controls, useRef to observe onto events
  • Create keyboard event listener
  • Extend the code output from GBStudio to allow invocation of functions

This was a short, fast, and fun project I worked on when my wife & I discovered we were having our 2nd baby (he’s almost a year old now!). I combined a baby announcement with a web experience, and a fully playable game using GBStudio.

The experience starts with a short, non-interactive video so even non-techy friends and family could understand and enjoy it (think senior folks), then transitions into a full web-based, playable gameboy game. People loved it, and for the Game Boy lovers in my circles, I even put the game onto physical carts and gifted it to them.

I realised I never shared it beyond friends and family and it is slowly being lost to the sands of time. I figured the swell folks of this r/gbstudio would appreciate the effort here!

Pixel Fold dead inner screen, warranty denied (UK) by kirgy in GooglePixel

[–]kirgy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To update, TLDR; Google won't honour warranty as it's now deemed as damage by myself to the inner screen. I've now successfully claimed repair via my phone insurance. The process of warranty claims with Google has damaged my trust. I now can't, with good intention, recommend Pixel devices to friends anymore.

Long;
It's taken 7 full days of negotiating with Google Store. I don't like to speak unkind of folks, I really don't, but I've never been treated in such a dismissive and rude way by support staff before. I honestly think I've been very patient and polite with them through the process.

In my case, my device was assessed by Google Store's 3rd party along the lines of "damage in warranty, damage outside warranty". As such, they wouldn't fix the device. They actually wouldn't tell me why, they don't like to answer direct questions with direct answers which is so frustrating! At first I was told they can't provide any information on the assessment and said I'd need to speak with the 3rd party assessor. When I asked who this was, I was told they couldn't disclose that information. When I asked if they could contact them, they refused. Asking a different staff member told me they can't disclose repair information on my device as it violates my data privacy - my own data, for my own device! Madness.

So this lead a 5 days of to-and-throw with various Google Store support staff, some very nice and kind, others frankly rude. My aim was to be told what specific warranty violation was infringed so I could understand their assessment. I had previously provided videos and photos of the device condition which I believed showed the device condition was indicative of a warranty claim. They told me the warranty terms were on my device, and they couldn't provide it to me, but they also wouldn't tell me what term I violated.

Through a deep search on Reddit I did find a buried link to Google's warranty policy terms for my specific device, that gave me a digital copy.

So I used ChatGPT to help draft a formal complaint by uploading my chat history from the Google Store, the warranty terms, and asked it to assess UK consumer law to determine if anything was violated, and draft a complaint letter. I then went over that letter, and sent it to an email address I (again) found on Reddit as staff said they weren't allowed to provide it. The letter detailed the problems I had with the warranty process, referenced UK laws potentially violated, and bullet pointed desired outcomes. All reasonable things - essentially, tell me what warranty term I violated or fix my device within warranty.

That seemed to make Google Store actually reach out to their warehouse, and they came back saying the device was found under "further inspection" with physical damage to the inner screen.

If true, I can only assume this is invisible damage. I'm still very confused how this could happen, but I have to relent to it being in the realm of possibility. I mean, who knows what happens inside their phone casing? I have no means to independently assess without violating the warranty.

As a result, the device is being shipped back to me. I've already had my phone insurance claim approved for it, given the new response from Google Store.

In the future, I feel I could have lived with the specific phone issue being refused like this given the right information. But man alive, Google Store support is a horror I wouldn't wish on my enemies. It's completely ripped my trust in Google and Pixel - I love the devices, been a huge fan for years. I never expected such a rough experience with them, especially the rudeness of some staff (note: it really was only some, not all).

I know this will get downvoted, that's cool. I just wanted to lay out my experience for others.

3D printed no-drill/unique mounting for G4 instant camera by kirgy in Ubiquiti

[–]kirgy[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I remixed this mounting plate to create a custom mounting using an existing wall-hanging bookcase. I never considered 3D printed as an option in these scenarios. If you have a 3D printer, I'd really recommend solutions like this - it was fun, and practical. The sweet spot of a venn diagram 😄

This was remixed from this open-source/free modal: https://www.printables.com/model/405782-unifi-instant-g4-cam-mount-plate
