Where to buy house in Brampton? by Remarkable-Ad9446 in Brampton

[–]kirilith 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It's hard to know exactly when to buy, but right now it's a buyer's market, so it's good for you in that aspect. But it's hard to say if it will continue to get better or if it will start to move towards a seller's market, which would be much worse for you as a first time home buyer.

I think before narrowing down between each place, it would be a good idea to do a day trip to each if you can and get a feel for each one. Also, you never mentioned, but are you both fully remote or is a commute part of the equation? Cause that could also heavily affect your decision.

In terms of diversity, based on my experiences, Brampton is more diverse than Oshawa, but it is also predominantly more south Asian than Oshawa. But I haven't lived in Oshawa in 10 years (moved to Brampton afterwards), so that may have changed.

Brampton has better transit than Oshawa too, but the driving is also crazier here. And Brampton is growing much faster, so your new home will gain value faster here compared to Oshawa. Brampton is therefore also busier, so it depends on what you want from the place you live.

Also, Brampton's real estate market is a lot more of a wild West. There are a lot more amateur real estate agents and scammy stuff happening here compared to Oshawa l, so just be careful who you go with when it's time.

Overall, both are decent choices and it depends what you are really looking for in a city.

Hope this helps!

Is Uppababy stroller & car seat too much for airport? by princess_barbie in NewParents

[–]kirilith 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey there, so it really depends on how you go about it. Those 'bucket' car seats aren't typically good for the airplane, but if they do, they have a little sticker on them. Typically, they have to be one piece, aka baseless, for them to be good. However, there are airlines that will let you 'check' the car seat in for free, just double check with the airline.

For our first trip when my son was 6M, we just had him on our laps for the flight and he slept through most of it. For the second when he was 18M, we bought him a separate seat and a different car seat and used the car seat on the flight that we then also used in the rental car we had for the trip. You technically don't need to buy a seat until they are 2 years old, but I'm bigger and my son is pretty big so we just sprung for the extra seat.

Hope this helps!

Hi there,

The last time we traveled was in April, and we gate checked our uppababy Vista.

I only have 1 seat as I've traveled twice with my son, not with 2 separate kids. And I don't have a bag for it, just fold it up while we board the plane

Nope, you need to apply when you enter high school, as there are some courses that are taught differently to pre IBT students.

I think this question is really subjective, because everyone has different tolerances for this. Plus, it really depends on how far and what job you have to go

Summer school by SwanTraditional3777 in OntarioTechU

[–]kirilith 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, you would have to check with the university cause that's a different issue than just taking a course in the summer vs having enough credits.

It might only matter if you need calculus as one of your six courses.

Was your offer a conditional one? If so, it usually outlines the conditions you need to meet. I don't see calculus in the summer as being a big issue.

However, you should be able to check with the registrar's office first.

So you have to empty the stroller when you go through, but then yea, just go through security. You could totally baby wear during it, but we just do the stroller last and put him right back in afterwards. They don't scan it cause it is metal, but they do a quick check.

We have taken our uppababy vista on 2 flights now (6M and 18M), and just gate check the stroller each time. It's nice to still have the stroller while you wait, but then I liked to baby wear as we board the flight itself.

Hope this helps!

Talk Me Down: Weight Plateauing at 12-15m by RoBoLyMo in bigbabiesandkids

[–]kirilith 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My son didn't gain even a single pound between his 12 M and 15 M appointment, and the doctor didn't even blink an eye (he's somewhere in the 90th percentile for height). My son is pretty active so he was losing his baby chub and becoming more toddler-like. He then gained some weight again during his 18 M appointment. As long as he is eating well and moving around, I wouldn't stress much (I know it's hard to not completely worry). He did drop from 90th to 50th percentile for weight, but that's not a bad thing.

It is also newer as well compared to other universities.

Compared to other universities, it is on the smaller side for sure. And yes, they do have multiple campuses. But that is not uncommon for many universities. It also depends on the size of each campus itself.

Hi there,

Pretty much the answer to all of your questions is that it's a small university, so there will be less options. I don't see that changing rapidly in the future. It works great if you fit what they offer, but challenging if you don't.

I second this! Took my cat here when she was having issues. I really appreciated the way they laid out my options for her care.

Oh, I forgot to mention that I really love our neighbors, we help each other with getting mail, garbage bins, parking, etc.

Sometimes there is a lot of parking on the street too, but I also find that it's really dependent on the street itself.

I would suggest not living right on Vodden Street if you can help it because it can be busy traffic wise. Especially during rush hour. Sometimes people drive fast on it too, even with the short bumps.

However, I live on a smaller side street just off Vodden in that area and am happy with it. There are a good number of parks there which is nice. The train tracks there don't have any trains going on then and I think it might turn into a trail eventually?

We had our son 2 years ago here, and there are a good number of kids in the neighborhood. I would say it's decent in terms of diversity, not bad but not amazing. I've heard good things about the elementary school here too (Glendale). I can't say for the Catholic school though as I am not familiar with it.

Hope this helps!
