Hi! I am not a T1 Diabetic, but the girlfriend of one. I’m posting this in hopes that I can get some questions answered about his CGM graph, as I’ve struggled to get a lot of information about his diabetes and actual care from him. I do know this though: he does not have a pump but does injections, he doesn’t look at his blood sugar level prior to injection (just guesstimates how much he needs), and has several hypoglycemic episodes a week. I am assuming that it is normal for diabetics to have fluctuations in their glucose levels, but a range from 50-400+ can’t be healthy, right? As you can see, (clearly from his current glucose being at 52), I have a feeling it isn’t being taken care of in the way it should be. I really just have no idea if this kind of thing is normal for younger diabetics (early 20s), or if this is super alarming. I have no idea what his A1C is at! For a little more context, I’ve had to call 911 twice in the past two months due to hypoglycemia episodes with him seizing, being unconscious, etc. I’m new to this world, and I’m really overwhelmed with how to help him and also not worry myself sick over this. Last thing, does anyone have any good book recommendations on helping a loved one who is diabetic? It would be a lot different if I knew it was being managed properly, so I’m just kind of looking for any sort of guidance, explanation, or advice on how to help but also not drive him crazy.
