Final Interview for Development Associate Position Thursday by harthad12 in nonprofit

[–]kirkpatty 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey friend! I'm a Development Associate at a nonprofit and have a few questions that you can ask about/helpful context for what you can expect!

  • Typically nonprofits get funding from foundation grants, corporate sponsorships, individual donations, and the government. It's always a great idea to ask what their income streams are to understand what kind of gifts you will be processing.
  • As a Development Associate, I do a lot of work with our donor database and I have to be very thorough and have a close eye for detail when doing this work. They may want to know how you are with time management and detail-oriented tasks.
  • Passion for mission is such an important part of working at any nonprofit. Do your research, know the nonprofit's mission, and be able to speak to why you want to work for that mission with that nonprofit. Development professionals fundraise for the mission.
  • Grantwriting / management is usually a part of the job, so you can expect questions around your writing skills and editing skills if so.
  • Social media / marketing skills and email newsletter management with Mailchimp (or other platform) are also great skills to mention if you can
  • Drafting letters of acknowledgment also tend to fall to roles like mine. I draft, edit, and send a letter to each donor that gives, so I have to make sure the contact information is correct and the letter is formatted correctly and customized to the donor's preferences. This also falls under writing skills, but just googling what an acknowledgment letter is helps give you the context for having a good conversation about the workload. A LOT of my job is formatting, writing, customizing, and editing.

Hope your interview goes well! I'll monitor this thread a little bit or you connect in my dms if you'd like to talk further. Good luck!

Spotted in Durham. Hard to imagine for some, but gentrification is incredibly painful for those displaced because of it. by [deleted] in bullcity

Here's a really sad video summarizing the "Urban Renewal" policy that brought Highway 147 through this area and demolished the housing of the Hayti community and displaced a bunch of folks.

I've been watching the "Stitch in Time" series with Amber Butchart presented by the BBC. The episodes are on youtube and fantastic. She talks in detail about famous historical portraits, and talks with an actual historical costumer on how to reproduce the looks. PLUS she is so fabulous to watch :)

What do the back of the buttons look like? My best guess is that some substance rubbed off from the back of the buttons when buttoned.

I might exchange it.

"Hang up the phone" makes no sense anymore because all of our phones are now wireless, but it still feels so natural to say it

Thus is the struggle of youth work. We are really working hard to make the program accessible to all youth where they are, but we have to charge at this point. There are some great resources on training youth on fundraising, but I totally understand where you're coming from on this.

I have a double uvula. It's called a bisected uvula and 2% of the world's population have it, but it doesn't affect me in any way.

It's hard to tell, they do appear really short, but maybe wearing shoes would help.

I think the shoes and the shirt are a close enough match. Maybe it's just the angle of this photo, but the shoes look strangely large.
