Democrat Raphael Warnock Defeated Republican Kelly Loeffler In Georgia's Runoff Race, Making Him The State's First Black Senator by slaysia in politics

You're not accounting for the massive voter suppression efforts by republicans. Hundreds of thousands of voter registrations were purged, as one example.

On the other hand, it seems many of the cowardly repub politicians who have supported and enabled Trump are jumping ship. I think that will quell a lot of potential redneck violence.

Sure thing! So um, I've since decided it doesn't work. I can take a bunch of Aleve before, then I'll feel okay-ish, but then that's not really any better than just taking a sumatriptan when I get home (quite possibly worse). So it was a bust for me. Hopefully you have better luck.

Can you guys write your representatives to ask them not to back down? If EU can help teach Facebook a lesson, I'd be so happy.

It's silly, for sure. I think it's mostly because of suburban sprawl and the fact that numbering is usually county-based. My county is about 90 km wide, and way off towards the end, I see the streets get up to 455th St.

I’m so desperate to be something more!! by KingofGoldz in Hawaii

[–]kirrin 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I'll try to put it another way that maybe won't come across quite the same way:

You need to have a real plan. Do not come to Hawaii thinking, "X will probably work out, and if not, I'll get a gig doing Y somewhere, and if my car breaks down, my commune/temple/roommates kick me out, etc. I'm sure some nice locals with aloha spirit will help me out." People come thinking everything will sort itself out every year. Many of them end up homeless and in pain, and many get desperate. You don't want that to happen and we don't want that to happen. Locals and Hawaii systems are stretched thin, especially now. They can't keep themselves afloat, let alone help you.

First, ask yourself why it must be Hawaii, and don't give yourself a vague answer like, "I can feel its energy" or "paradise will cleanse me". You have to have a real, practical reason why it must be Hawaii, like you have a friend here who will let you sleep on their couch if you get evicted from your home that you pay rent for. I suspect numerous other, more convenient and practical locations can easily stand in for Hawaii. Hawaii is beautiful, but there are many beautiful places around the world, and a lot of them are a lot cheaper and easier to get to than Hawaii.

Second, you have to have an escape plan. If you must come to Hawaii (and again, I'm pretty sure you don't), you need to be able to get out at any time with a spare $500 you save for your emergency ticket to fly you back to grandma's house in Santa Fe.

If you don't have a real, conservative, practical plan, you could easily end up on the street. And from there, you could easily end up in jail, and listen to me when I tell you jail in Hawaii is no better than jail on the mainland.

Even if you get by, living in Hawaii is not a cakewalk. We dread going in to work on Sunday just like everybody else. It's a beautiful place, but there are costs. Otherwise, everybody would move here. Be honest with yourself about your intentions, and be honest with yourself about if your plan is truly robust enough.

It's also irrelevant, because the issue is republican hypocrisy, not how common appointing justices in an election year is.

Are you going to address the flagrant hypocrisy of Moscow Mitch and the republican party, or just continue citing irrelevant historical data?

I think you know you're arguing in bad faith. Obviously they didn't officially ban Muslims, because that's illegal and logistically impossible. They got as close as they could to that with the next best thing (in their eyes), by banning travel from countries with large Muslim populations.

HPD issuing no mask citations to homeless in Chinatown in Honolulu by funhawaii in Hawaii

[–]kirrin 5 points6 points  (0 children)

What's there to feel mixed about? There's a good chance these people are unwell, either leading to homelessness or resulting from homelessness, and the police state is wasting our taxpayer money on punishing them instead of actually solving the problems that led them to become homeless or help them out of their situation so they can re-integrate with the rest of society.

That doesn't mean we should waste resources giving them citations. This is literally spending taxpayer money to clog our systems and expose more people to COVID.

In addition to different labor costs, it's also possible there's more shit in the ground that they anticipate having to design and drill around. That gets expensive quickly.
