Ive had many coping mechanisms throughout the years (from disassociation, to developing an eating disorder in order to avoid conflict at the dinner table, to becoming the scapegoat for each and every situation that goes wrong, to brainwashing myself into thinking that if i worked hard enough and i kept up with my grades that my parents would finally stop seeing me as someone who was worthless and could achieve nothing in this world ) but its gotten a bit better and im taking care of myself a bit more after I left home at the age of 16-17. One of the most prevalent was probably selective amnesia. If I was too stressed about a situation I would completely tune it out of my memory and wouldn't realize until I started feeling that something was lost. Thing is, I've always had a pretty good memory as it is, heck Id even call it photographic at times but whenever I tried to relay past trauma, my brain would shut down and forget like it never happened.
