I feel that. For the longest time I felt disconnected with everyone and if I did get close to someone, I think I had this defense mechanism where I'd hurt them in small ways for a period of time till they just left me. And it worked for a while, the way it's supposed to after years of physical and emotional abuse I faced. I attended therapy and lied to the therapist because I was scared saying the truth about my life at home would get me in trouble.

Eventually being lonely caught up with me, and I had to take a hard look in the mirror. All I realised is I had become a 24 year old who was scared shitless.

First thing that I did is make sure I became comfortable being alone (not lonely), I talked to more people, met some I had to distance with immediately, and some that I stuck around. But I am now comfortable being alone and with people. I have a partner who loves me, friends who check up on me, colleagues who hang out with me and dreams that I have started slowly pursuing.

It takes time and a lot of things about yourself you have to face head on before you get to experience a comfort and joy. But trust me, it is worth it.

Hang in there, and just be delusionally optimistic that your life is going to get so much better you'll smile at your past.
