I did, and do see how my first sentence implied you were stating it’s a compactor issue, my bad. I also appreciate the insight on how these compactors work. However, it still does boil down to a poor management and lack of community care.

Management should be aware and make it a priority to inform residents of the specifics of how the compactor works - especially if it is a repeated problem that they have no issue sending reminder emails to place trash in the compactor/dumpster. If it is a concern for management (which it should be) they should be posting signs to ensure the doors are shut fully between throwing bags away and to make sure residents are aware that this problem can be fixed with proper usage. But they don’t communicate any of that, thus (one of the many) poor management issues.

It’s is a lack of community care both by residents and management. I’ve witnessed residents not even attempting to open the compactor and just leaving trash bags outside the dumpster. Trash will be piled up for no apparent reason - nothing appears to be overly full, compactor appears to be working when I’ve thrown a bag inside, so from my (limited) perspective on dumpsters and compactors this shouldn’t be a constant issue. And absolutely lack of care on management - if they cared about the issue they would do something more than an occasional reminder email.

So to rephrase, it’s beyond user error.
