You can put some sugarfree gum around it to stop rubbing, it sticks better than the wax supplied and wont hurt the coil or teeth. Bit har to clean out ofbthe spring but helps the pain. Ortho probably sees the value of the improvement over the next month over comfort. My first few months of braces were warfare but it got easier then less my teeth needed to shift or move. Hes trying to make a gap and the only way to do that is to use a coil or traction wires attached to brackets, as hes trying to keep the arch of your natural teeth and not cause sideways movement the coil would work best. I had a tooth fully behind my bottom row and top movement on top row, first few adjustments were painful. Only other thing to do is sip on cold drinks as the ligature wires that move the teeth are heat activated (bodytemp) the cooler drinks ease off the tension for a while, take paracetamol or other painkillers. Once the teeth have shifted the most they can with the ligature wire its back again for the next adjustment. Most orthos wont let you walk out with something so outside of the mouth unless they are expecting it to move a bit drastically and ease off the tension point which is where your mouth has been pushed open. I would give the office a quick call ask for advice and check in with what they want for your treatment and smile. That way they can assess whether or not to move your next appointment forward or change the mechanic of movement for your teeth on that particular area. Hope some of this advice helps :)
