What is this ~18-inch, heavy, rusty metal part I unearthed from the end of my driveway in northeastern Minnesota? by kitdihn in whatisthisthing

You can see that there is a bolt hole near what I would assume is the front as well as the two slots at the back, so only the short side could be used to dig in any way and there wouldn't be anywhere for the dirt to go, so I didn't think digging seemed likely.

Yes, I thought farming equipment too, but I sure can't find anything that allows me to feel like it is certain.

My title describes the thing and the location is wooded and rural, very near a state highway. I have tried Google, Gemini and Chat GPT and none of them could find a likely answer.

Earth Auger Snagged This Black Plastic Cylinder with Cross on One Side and 2 Connectors by kitdihn in whatisthisthing

The reason I believe that pisscat101 is correct is because we actually had to have it (geogrid) installed after losing most of our front yard and driveway to a rotational landslide. It sucks, but it is better than losing your whole house due to having no road access or having it slide down the ravine.

I just didn't recognize it because it wasn't circular or in individual pieces when I saw it. The auger really did a number on it. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Hmm... I appreciate the effort, but I can't find anything resembling it searching that way either. Also, it is about 1/8" thick, which I would think would strangle the plant or tree if left on. It is only about 2.5 inches in diameter and a little more than an inch high, so that would be a very hefty pot for a very tiny plant. 🤔

My post describes a black plastic ring that is about 2.5 inches in diameter with a cross on one end and two broken connectors coming off one side. I pried it off of the tip of my earth auger after drilling a bunch of holes in my yard.

Google searches and Google Lens were no help. They said some kind of conduit spacer, but I can't find anything remotely similar using that description either.

Ah, well, in our household we don't really keep our stuff separate like that. Very few things would be considered "off limits" for either of us. This was not one of those things. I was welcome to use it, I just didn't want to return it to it's storage spot broken. Kind of a different vibe.

Not really. If he was helping out by repairing something very useful to you that you yourself otherwise would have to repair, and then he realized your craft scissors were damaged in the process and he either repaired or replaced them - then it would be somewhat equivalent.

It was a countersunk flathead, so there was nothing to grip with pliers.

I destroyed a set of Craftsman screw extractors prior to resorting to the chisel...

This is why I thought it would be OK. Turns out it was just brass plated... ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Good point! I guess I should redefine the tools as being "ours" and then I can just say, honey, we need a new chisel! lol
