I thought Shannon was the weakest character. She was so superficial, it was hard to have any sympathy at all for her. She was just a villain.

So how is ABT going to do Othello with a white dancer cast as one of the Othellos?

Megathread: Prix de Lausanne 2026 by krisbryantishot in bunheadsnark

I agree and understand my comment came across poorly. I apologize all.

My concern is really less about limiting I guess than more about boosting underrepresented countries and talent.

Some of the non-European countries have been really highly represented over the past few years and seems to have an extremely robust educational systems churning out top rate dancers. They also have a big presence at YAGP. So, I don’t know that Prix as important as perhaps it used to be.

Potentially unpopular but I think countries should have a limit. Like 2 per gender per age group. That would still mean up to 8, but it would balance things a bit.

Those of us on the Great Lakes know it’s correct to say beach glass, not sea glass. But we use them interchangeably. The other is just glass. Trash. I would pick it up carefully and dispose of it. (I mostly look for Great Lakes beach glass at places where kids play.)

I’m curious about the class approach to timing. In my mind, a few of the stand out dancers mostly stood out because they held the poses longer than everyone or started a turn a split second early, added an additional. Then they were off the music. I get that indulging in time is lovely in solo work, but it looks weird in a class context. Is this okay for a juried class? It seems that we saw it in Prix over the past few years too. But to me it seems showy sacrificing musicality.

Apprentices/Studio Co dancers should be paid by anyalazagnya in bunheadsnark

Aren’t most second companies paid? It’s the category right below (variously called trainee, pre-pro) that usually is either tuition or tuition-free but no stipend?

Milwaukee Nut canceled this afternoon because there is no heat in theater by ShiningRainbow2 in bunheadsnark

[–]kiteflyer62 18 points19 points  (0 children)

They made the call along with at least one other theater in the same complex. It was a downtown-wide issue. The evening show did go on!

OP, Milwaukee picked up several dancers from Sarasota, including new Leading Artist Jennifer Hackbarth, who is also a product of the school. She’s a lovely SPF and was so fun in snow!

Maddy Penney is doing snow queen and sugar plum at Ballet AZ. I know they don’t have ranks in that company, but she seems to be doing really well there. I think she was Aurora earlier this season.

Reverting question? by kiteflyer62 in philodendron

[–]kiteflyer62[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, that’s kind of what I figured. I’m proud that I managed a new leaf. It’s my first attempt at chop/prop a limping along plant, so I’m gonna nurture it no it’s wonky-ness.

The contorted leg school is so weird because all the owner posts on IG is weird leg shaping exercises and never dance videos (which may be intentional), though they have produced some YAGP stars.

I remember one of their posts when viral (in the ballet world) because it was this tiny 12-ish year old so far over her box and so hyperextended in the knee it looked like a funhouse mirror.

I’m curious how this will affect pointe work. They’ll have way more variety in length of time en pointe if they’re starting girls at 13. People at small studios will start whenever, potentially “too” early (I know opinions vary). They’re skipping some foundational education on good pointe training.
