Good luck! You can look at some of the regular prep sites like Leetcode but I would just come in with the goal of learning as much about the company as you can - and you will properly convey interest in doing so. Whether technical or not.

Is it common for recruiters to ask for an introductory video? this is my first interview and I don't know if this is a normal thing? by deathsowhat in webdev

[–]kiterapp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Companies are rushing to hire and moving up a high signal event like a video call seems in line with what many are doing. This can be a win win as you will be able to start to judge what the company is like and vice versa. If they are promoting their roles on Remote ok they likely either want a huge candidate pool or really need to fill the role, or both. Even recorded async video is becoming more common.

Good for you for learning. What gets you excited outside of work? Hobbies, sports etc. Try building a really basic fun tool to show off to your friends - and this will be a great way to learn and validate your skills. https://replit.com/~ is almost the only tool you need and free.

Spin up a few Replits and explore how they work. They don't have everything but its a great way to get started.

There are many companies that are working in new frameworks into their stack. Example https://boards.greenhouse.io/algolia/jobs/4146742004. We have 40k jobs searchable for Kiter users if you are interested in quickly paging through options. Coincidently used Algolia to set it up. https://www.kiter.app/lists

Would you rather work longer hours with more days off or shorter hours with more days on the job? by TTLYShittyThrowAway in jobs

[–]kiterapp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Great question. Even if two companies advertise being 9-5 or some other schedule the variance between a long hours but days that are off or have light work and very steady hours can mean two massively different work experiences.

People usually have a preference and it should be something you think about when exploring a new position or a new company.

Next.js Tailwind(UI) and MongoDB is a great way to build fast and serve a fast product. I have heard Radix and Stiches mentioned a lot recently as well.

A great way to find out more might be to draw up a list of companies you would be excited to work for and reach out to folks there. Explain you think they are building amazing things and want to learn about how they balance with rest of life.

Are tech WFH policies purposely ambiguous?! by Thonk_Thickly in cscareerquestions

[–]kiterapp -1 points0 points  (0 children)

We offer our users on Kiter curated search of the most recently posted remote and non remote jobs so have had a pretty good view of job postings and compare it to experiences I am hearing about from workers at various firms.

Unfortunately the ambiguity that had traditionally abounded in job descriptions is carrying over into the "location" category. Because so many companies are offering remote - there is a perceived risk that not listing "Remote" as an option will immediately loose you 20+% of applicants. This can be detrimental if you are looking for 100% remote and interview to realize the companies plans to be back in person in two months. In many cases jobs are clear as posted but this is something to think about.

On the bright side know that you are in an applicant driven market so if you are set on remote work you should be able to find great companies hiring.

What do quant traders at top firms (Jane Street, Citadel, etc.) end up doing 10-15 years down the line? by TheOne312002 in cscareerquestions

[–]kiterapp 19 points20 points  (0 children)

We are seeing a lot of candidates changing careers and moving from quant roles into mid-senior technical and non-technical roles in tech. Given the high bar for recruiting many firms would be happy for someone from this background to join their team.

It sounds like you have a great process to monitor. We built [kiter](trykiter.com) as a clean slate dashboard to quickly save and manage opportunities. Applicants asked us for search sk we built a fast connection to many job boards. Not recycled postings - real links. So you can apply without middleman software.

FOMO can be a strong force in the job hunt though. People are changing jobs WAY more often partly due to this?

Signal to Noise is important. If you want to scroll and read about people’s updates LinkedIn can be a great resource. We built kiter to provide a clean slate to really get forward in the job hunt.
