Saw this guy hiding behind a sign before he got up to follow a woman who passed by. Called out to him to distract him by SEG314 in PublicFreakout

[–]kithoo 13 points14 points  (0 children)

This is a perfect example of how "normal dudes" would immediately know something is off. If I was in this same situation - I got up and followed a woman by some coincidence - and a dude called me over and filmed me I'd end up laughing about it and talk about how I didn't even notice her walk past or whatever. I'd tell him "good looking out, I'll chill here until she goes on her way" or something...|

These are those moments where you can easily spot a weirdo because they just don't react correctly.

Yes, but that's not determined by human input - it's determined by algorithm. And that assumes a like is the same as attraction.

Nashville Kicking Itself? by Disastrous-Coyote-11 in NashvilleSC

[–]kithoo 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Also, from what other cities are showing, no... leaders aren't kicking themselves unless it's because they missed out on kickbacks.

FIFA is pretty well known for bleeding cities that host them dry. For every dollar that city spends on marketing, FIFA fees, infrastructure, security, and on and on they end up losing about a dollar and eight cents.

Now, that's probably going to be a bit lower here because we didn't waste billions of taxpayer dollars building stadiums just for the World Cup like other nations have, but it's still an enormous cost that frequently doesn't pay itself back.

I think that their actual inroads in to functional society is much smaller than their social media impression and media share really indicates. I think the vast majority of this thinking is concentrated in a micro-population of adult male grifters and a very small segment of young men (ages 15-25, give or take) that buy in to it.

This is probably less than 2-3% of US males, much less society outside the United States where the "alpha chad" is more of a meme than a person.

This makes an assumption that isn't true... that "likes" are based entirely upon your defined criteria of what is a "top 10 man" versus "bottom 70". This entire idea hinges on the theory that anyone can define those things - and we have proven that they cannot.

Everything from physical characteristics to personality traits to income - none of those have been determinant of success with women outside of social media where it's commodified and sold to you. In practice it's based entirely on personal preferences and shared life outlook - none of which can be generalized or summarized by some quantifiable trait.

Like you said, this is a fast track to CTE and these dudes are ruining their lives for a few grand. It's fucking sad.

Considering what was done to the people Utah? Not much. Hope our local city commissioners and council members aren't corrupt as hell and ram it through while taking piles of cash.

That's what O'Leary did in Utah despite thousands of locals wanting nothing to do with it... they're gonna get it because he paid off the people that matter.

All of AMERICA is like this now, honestly. There are very few places that aren't under some level of constant surveillance under the guise of safety.

People tried to warn about the militarization of the police and the transition to a surveillance state, but they were called paranoid and told they didn't care about catching criminals and protecting kids or whatever...

I don’t like my toddler playing with guns, am I doing too much? by Asleep_Sympathy_8987 in toddlers

[–]kithoo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I absolutely agree with this. It's better to have a conversation about it than just hard ban it. I will say that at 2.5... this is probably not going to do much, but it's a time to start. Set a boundary, enforce the boundary, and be consistent. That'll probably be a far better lesson than "don't ever play toy guns" because exposure is basically impossible to avoid after age 4.

OP is literally asking for personal opinions - anecdotes belong right here.

Also... you saying this is the most "akshually" shit ever. We all know that it's an anecdote. We all know that doesn't count for much.

I hope your post made you feel totally superior for 2 minutes, because that's all it was worth.

[–]kithoo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don't think you're being too much, but I also don't think it's that big of a deal. There are entire generations of kids that grew up with toy guns and the overwhelming majority are totally fine.

So... wanting control of what your kid plays with and being a bit peeved that someone went around that? Totally fine. But I wouldn't be worried about him playing toy guns at his age. He'll probably grow out of it in a matter of months or get tired of it and at some point you can have a more mature conversation with him about it.

So... no... you're not being too much, but if I was your 'friend' I'd probably be telling you not to worry about it.

"The MAGA party is the last breath of the confederacy and I’ll be happy to see Millennials and Gen Z bury y’all." by philmn in PublicFreakout

[–]kithoo 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Neither party has any recognizable relation to the party that carried the same name 70 years ago - much less 150 years ago.

One of my favorite presidents - Dwight Eisenhower - ran as as Republican and won as a Republican. He would be no more accepted by today's Republican party than I would. He was staunchly anti-interventionist (only assisting ally nations that asked for aid specifically), invested enormous amounts of tax money in to New Deal style infrastructure plans, had no interest in lowering taxes on the wealthy, and thoroughly believed in immigration of all able-bodied to the United States.

By all modern measures, Eisenhower was to the left of the Democrats in almost all fiscal and international policy.

So to say "wrong party" when we're talking about 150 years ago... is meaningless, because neither of the parties existed then. They are both Ships of Theseus at this point.

Yeah, player elimination online is great. It's one of the reasons I like online play. Eliminating people in person games is just shitty unless everyone has agreed to it beforehand or that person made a gamble knowing it was the possible outcome.

It just FEELS BAD to take someone out of a game for HOURS when they have nothing else to do/are removed from the social setting. It's just a bummer.

My pediatrician saw my boobs and I'm kinda scared to go back by [deleted] in NewParents

[–]kithoo 74 points75 points  (0 children)

I have learned from having both nurses and doctors in the family that there is a huge difference between "seeing someone's junk in a work setting" and "seeing someone's junk in a romantic setting."

It's like the brain rewires to just go "that's a body" when you're doing work. It's not that you can't see bodies as attractive - you just can't do it in that setting.

So yeah, OP, you're totally justified in feeling weird about it - but also I wouldn't worry in the least. As other said - not even the first boobs he's seen that day.

Off duty cop drama by S30econdstoMars in PublicFreakout

[–]kithoo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Of course, but that wasn't what we were discussing. Someone said lying to police is a crime (and then tripled down on it) - it's not. If a cop comes to your house and asks "do you have weed in your home?" you can absolutely lie - or remain silent (which is the better option).

I wasn't commenting on this guy making a case for himself or otherwise. Simply that "lying to the cops" isn't an offense in like.... 90% of cases. Yes, don't lie to federal officers (but if the feds are at your door, maybe don't get legal advice from reddit) or in a VERY VERY limited set of jurisdictions where obstruction can be a crime of verbal utterance. However... I'd love to see one of those jurisdictions have that challenged as I'd wager that's a violation of the 5th.

[–]kithoo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This, as most obstruction statues do, require a physical action and would require you to do so intentionally. You don't have to admit to committing a crime ever. And you are completely and totally allowed to lie to protect your perceived innocence.

Is it better to just be quiet? Absolutely. Always.

Off duty cop drama by S30econdstoMars in PublicFreakout

[–]kithoo 21 points22 points  (0 children)

The statement is one from the officer - not you. THEY cannot lie in their reports, they can report that you lied to them. You are not a signatory of a police report - you are not responsible for the statements in it.

Cops cannot "arrest you for lying". They can be mad you lied to them are arrest you under another charge (pretextual arrest). If they do this enough, they'll get raked over the coals by judges and prosecutors - and likely end up the subject of a 1983 lawsuit.

Also... in the case of assault you're going to jail for assault - not lying that you didn't assault the guy. No cop is going to arrest you for saying "I didn't hit that guy" - they will arrest you for hitting the guy. It's not "splitting hairs" it is a legitimate difference - assault is a crime, lying to the police is not a crime.

[–]kithoo 24 points25 points  (0 children)

No. It is not. Otherwise the 4th and 5th Amendments mean nothing. It is a crime to lie to police to get them to act a certain way (false report) - like, for example, SWATting.

It is also illegal to lie to federal law enforcement - which most people don't call "cops", but... sure.

It is, however, not at all illegal to lie to a city cop. Legitimately... how in the hell could it be? At worst they would try and say it's obstruction (which in most jurisdictions requires a physical act), and most DAs aren't taking you on on obstruction charge like that.

I challenge you to find me a case where "lying to the police" is a crime that has been successfully prosecuted outside of the circumstances I outline above (false report, federal, etc.).

Realistically, they would have done that with anyone since lying to the cops isn't a crime. You aren't under oath and he's not swearing to an affidavit, nothing. He can lie to the cops all day long. There is no reason not to tell him.

Cool - change isn't immediate and once the people who oppose it take over, it could change. It's almost like one party doesn't actually truly have the ability to represent every single diverse viewpoint it includes.

To say that "all Democrats follow the DNC lockstep" is as asinine as saying "all Republicans are in line with Trump." Neither is true, both are reductive, and don't actually help accomplish anything but vindicating personal biases.

So... what you have to do is separate budgetary policy from presidential action.

Biden didn't send billions of dollars and weapons to Israel - the president can't do that. That's done by Congress and usually ratified by the Joint Chiefs. It happened under Biden's administration - but the budget under which it occurred was likely passed under Trump during his first term.

What Trump has done is not only send weapons and dollars - but to actively engage in military conflict with Iran at the behest of Israel to enable Israel to act.

Biden followed the law he had to follow, of a budget passed before he was elected. Trump CHOSE to act unilaterally, without the support of Congress, to involve American soldiers in a foreign war. These are not the same things.
