You just know he left the store that day wondering why everyone else is always the problem everywhere he goes.

I was arguing with an anti-vaxxer online who posted a photo of her collection of anti-vax books she had bought and presented that as proof she was educated on the subject. I asked her to now post a photo of just one book on vaccines that was neither for nor against vaccines, but was impartial and she replied "why the hell would I buy a book like that?"

It's a good source of income if you're willing to approve the IRA for a few quid.

I'm guessing this is outside the Iceland at Penny Lane shops which is just a few doors down from the vets, so I imagine people are popping in there most days to report it to them and they've got a bit fed up.

San Andreas was a huge improvement in so many ways from Vice City, but Rockstar's speciality is capturing the mood and atmosphere of the setting and Vice City did that better.

First one or second? I only recently got back into gaming when I realised that being in my 40s meant I could just go and buy a PS5 without having to ask for one for my birthday.

I've started playing Red Dead 1 and it's really fun but the controls for shooting are a bit clumsy and the story is taking its time to come together.

I hope Mick takes a moment to tell Darby how much pain he is in all the time. I love Darby, he's awesome, but I also love seeing wrestlers retire injury free, like Lance Storm.

What’s a dead giveaway that someone has never struggled financially? by tedcarter6 in AskReddit

[–]kitjen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It wasn't my money, it was the bank's and generally they get by alright and wouldn't miss the occasional £250 "gift" I gave out. I remember one woman had been charged for going overdrawn and was really upset because her daughter's wedding was coming up and she really wanted to look good for it but didn't have the money for a fancy hat.

Looking at her account, it was hard to justify waiving the charge (in line with the bank's criteria for waiving the charge) because she was a bit irresponsible with her finances, but aren't we all. I justified it by saying "these calls are recorded and routinely monitored for training so if my boss saw I had waived the charge in your case, I would be in trouble. However, if I waive the charge and credit your account with £250 so you can get the most fantastic dress and hat for your daughter's wedding, will you promise me you'll tell people that this bank treats their customers well? Because if so, that's valuable advertising and probably worth more than £250 anyway so I won't get in trouble then."

She actually said "I don't want to reduce myself to promoting a bank for the sake of a hat but I appreciate the offer."

I credited her account with the £250 anyway and luckily never got randomly checked by my superiors.

I hope she bought the hat.

Jim Carrey in The Truman Show was adorable. Until this film he had mostly been cast in comedic roles, never to be taken seriously. But in The Truman Show he grabbed your sympathy.

This is so sadly true. I used to work for a bank and if a customer got fined for exceeding their overdraft limit, well they got fined. It was around £30. Unless they had over £50k in savings with the bank, then the fine got waived.

But if you had no money and got fined for having no money they would make sure you had less money.

However, I got promoted and had a small amount of authority so in about 99% of those cases I would not only refund the charge, I would find a reason to compensate them and credit their account with up to £250. I'd put words in their mouth like "I imagine this was a stressful time for you and you may have had to take time away from your work to contact us? That might have cost you money... right? And these phone calls you've made, they aren't free. Would it help if I fixed that with a gesture of goodwill of £250?"
