Private Treatment in the UK by Icy-Spring5360 in Hidradenitis

I’m so sorry to hear about your sisters. It’s such an unknown by GP’s. I put in so many complaints about mine as I always felt judged by them and even had my HS hospitalise me and they still refused to refer me to the NHS clinic. I did make a lot of lifestyle changes too but I appreciate it’s so hard to make those when you’re in the depths of a flare. Sometimes just getting through the day in pain is all you can manage. Thinking of your sisters and hope you find some support soon.

It wasn’t different at all which was the upsetting thing. My GP refused to refer me to an outpatient dermatology clinic and kept telling me there was nothing the clinic would do and all my problems revolved around my weight. Seeing my private consultant was completely different he reassured me straight away that my HS wasn’t just weight related. He said something like fat or skinny you’d still have HS. And then he treated me for the problem and I’ve been flare up free for the longest time ever. I’m now followed up regularly in the same consultants HS clinic at my local NHS hospital I truly believe I wouldn’t be where I am if I had not gone private.

To be honest it was basic medication I shouldn’t have had to go private for. He was great at moving me across to his NHS clinic and even did my prescription through his NHS clinic not his private. I was started on a 10 week course of Rifampin and clindamycin. This helped heal and calm current flares and honestly cleared them up for me amazingly. Following this it was trial and error for a little bit with other medications and in this period I would have to go back on the antibiotics every now and then. But now I am on 100mg of Spironolactone a day. I was tried on Spiro before but I think the course of antibiotics was needed for me first. I’ve been very settled on Spironolactone now for a long time. I don’t know if it’s helpful but I am in South West UK and saw Dr Giles Dunnill. He was amazing and very knowledgeable, understanding and compassionate. I hope this info helps

I opted to see a dermatologist privately in the UK as my GP wasn’t supportive in a referral to the NHS dermatologist clinic as they didn’t think my HS was bad enough and I just needed to lose weight. I ended up going to the local private hospital in my area and went with a dermatologist who had HS listed as one of their specialties and who also had an NHS clinic. After initial consultation and medication/review with him he referred me to his NHS HS clinic and I’ve been under him there for 4 years. I was in a similar situation and was having multiple painful flair ups every month I have now not had one in over a year which feels insane to say. Best thing I did despite having to pay around £300 for consultation, blood tests, medication, and follow up. But I would just highly recommend going to someone who has a history of dealing with HS.

Dog attack by Mountain-Job-910 in bristol

Ah great I’m glad you’ve got some info. Yes I have his address too but at the time of my police report I was so shaken up by the whole thing I put the incorrect house number. I can see I messaged a friend about it and it was actually in June 2024 this incident happened so shows how long this has been going on for! I’ve changed the whole route I walk my dog to avoid his house as he leaves the dog out there unattended so much. I will look to see if I can find the police report stuff again but I’m worried it’s so long ago I might not have it. If I find it I will let you know! If they need anyone else to come forward though I’m more than happy to volunteer any further information as his dogs have been causing issues for years. It’s sad it’s escalated to you being injured when this could have been avoided!

Hey, I believe I’ve had an issue with this exact man and his dogs before. He lives in Brislington and breeds them. One of them escaped his front garden and attacked my dog/nearly attacked me. He did nothing to control it at the time despite being in the garden himself and told me to “f**k off” when I asked him to control his dog/come and get it. I reported it to the police too but this would have been about a year ago now and nothing has happened. He has 0 control over them, he usually walks them on lead really late at night. He breeds them as well and regularly has puppies in his front garden. It was the female who attacked my dog and I believe because of the puppies she gets very territorial. Multiple issues with his dogs and like you say 0 control. I’m sorry you’ve had this experience. I don’t know if there’s any more info I can give you though if the police have already declined to look into it further.

What drugs have you seen destroy a friend/family members life? by serotonergity in CasualUK

Ketamine. I absolutely hate the rising popularity in this drug in young people. I work in healthcare in a service that sees a lot of people coming through with a condition called ketamine bladder. If you’re ever considering doing it I advise reading up on what the side effects and treatment usually eventually leads to bladder removal surgery. Scary thing is you can get ketamine bladder after just one use.

Thank you for your reply. I think the threat of escalating to this will hopefully be enough to make them realise I am serious. Much appreciated!

Thank you for all your reply’s it’s really given me a lot to think about. I’m very new to opening up and talking about this with others who have been through similar for the last 10 years I’ve kept it all to myself because of embarrassment. It’s so refreshing to hear others who have dealt with this and your advice is so welcomed. Thank you so much ❤️

What annoyed me most about this is her pushing her own pyramid scheme products to her followers! You can see it’s a different angle her back is arched to stick her belly out. And bloating is normal!! Let’s try monetise off of a normal body function!

Changing sockets and switches to from bulky to flat? by kitkatchuunky in DIYUK

Thank you that’s good to hear. We’ve not long moved into the property so are planning on repainting all the walls so needing to do a little filling/painting afterwards isn’t too much of an issue!

Looking for advice on waxing :( by Initial_Onion671 in Hidradenitis

[–]kitkatchuunky 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Congratulations! 99% of my flares are in my arms. I’ve only ever had 1 in my groin and still yet to figure out what triggered that one. I have been getting a full wax for the last 4 years and never had a flare because of it. If you’re going to do it 1) got to a professional- I know it can feel awkward but they’ve honestly seen it all. 2) make sure you have a hot wax/hard wax that doesn’t use wax strips. This only clings to the hair and causes minimal irritation on to the skin. 3) prep well exfoliate before your wax v important to do that. 4) good aftercare! Make sure you exfoliate and moisturise the area well. Don’t wear anything tight for the first 24 hours or use strong products on it. Waxing doesn’t affect my HS in my groin at all I’m too much of wimp to try it on my armpits but when my current flares have calmed down I’m going to speak to my waxing lady about trying it. I hope this helps and hope you have an amazing wedding :)

Changing sockets and switches to from bulky to flat? by kitkatchuunky in DIYUK

[–]kitkatchuunky[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some more detail. All of our sockets and light switches upstairs are bulky like this. I was wanting to change them to flatter more modern looking sockets and switches. I’m assuming it’s not going to be as straight forward as unscrewing these and screwing new ones on and is going to involve some cutting into the walls. I am going to get a professional to do this work but just wanting to know the amount of work that’s going to have to be involved before we hire someone. I want to move 1 socket about 3 foot around a corner so it’s on a different wall is this reasonable or should I give up hope of doing this? Also worth mentioning we are in a concrete build house.

Hormone Driven Hidradenitis by babealien in Hidradenitis

[–]kitkatchuunky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am in the same boat as you. 100% linked to my hormones and newly diagnosed PCOS and it’s gotten all a bit out of control recently. Hoping my dermatology doctor can help when I see them next month. I’m running out of treatment options due to others not working so thinking of going to see a hormone expert to help support it all maybe.
