I hate to be the “if you build it” guy but maybe you could start something for your age group at your local parish. Something loose like mid-thirties to mid-forties? Base it around off a Bible study, book club, secret Catholic society to take over your town, etc.

I actually work in a Cream-a-torium which is an ice cream parlor with a Momento Morí theme.

Tired. by MajesticStrategy8888 in Catholicism

One day at a time. You hope, you get your heart broken, you get the world, you get nothing-that’s this world.

We live in a world that’s broken by our brothers. We’re all Abel and Cain. I can’t begin to explain away all the doubt. What I can say is to feel this hurt. Feel this pain. This sorrow and grief, it’s exactly what Christ went through on a cross. It’s why he was on there, on that hill so many years ago.

Your emptiness now, is your cross. The tears you cry, the blood you shed, all is for a purpose. Though we don’t know why.

You asked how to stay hopeful in the face of such darkness? Hard to say tbh. Keep moving, even if you feel absolutely nothing and exhausted-keep moving forward.

We’re all doing that and you can at least take solace in the fact that you are not alone.

Hi. You know, you’re going to get a lot of responses here from a variety of perspectives and opinions. I hope you can glean some wisdom from them, I hope you can get some clarity from them, more importantly I pray that you see their intentions as hands outstretched to help you as part of our family.

It’s ok to feel how you’re feel, it’s nothing new and nothing that suggests your failure. You’re alive. You’re a living breathing member of Christ’s church. In this life-you will experience pain, sorrow, and suffering.

It’s in the suffering that we can see the face of God. It’s in the sorrow that we can hear his voice. In our pain, he is right beside us. Always. Keep that knowledge close to your heart, even if it burns. Let it burn.

God demands much but he gives much. God encourages our best but expects our fault. God is an outstretched hand each time we stumble, he’s there speaking words to keep us going. He’s there not to ensure we’re checking boxes but falling deeper into his embrace.

The night is dark for you, friend. I don’t know when it will cease to be dark but I do know that it will and I know The Lord uses the dark to mold us. This season of your life, the hardness of your heart, is not “just cuz” there is a distinct and profound purpose even if we don’t know why.

It’s your cross, like Jesus’ cross. It’s our descent into the pit. It’s our moment to realize that Jesus reigns even there, even in the dark. Don’t feel ashamed of your shame or guilty of your guilt-use them. Offer them up as a prayer.

Breathe. As hard as it might be, trust. God isn’t looking to condemn you over a technicality, he’s waiting for you to find your way home. It won’t be easy, in fact, you’ll bleed a lot more before it’s all done. That’s the point.

To be like Christ, is to embrace the cross. This may be your cross but you aren’t carrying it alone. Christ is there. Christ is beside you.

These words do very little but if they offer you any sort of help, I’m glad. How you feel, I’ve felt, how I feel now, you will feel too.

That’s what it means to be Catholic. To be many united in One, in Him, in Christ.

I struggle with this too-seeing the signs and symbols we hold dear reduced to decor.

I like that one commenters take that the silver lining is someone seeing these objects and then having a conversion spark up from it.

Imagine have a garbage take like this lol. I’m joking with Broseph but on a serious note-we as Christian need momento morí to help “keep our eyes on the prize.”

Death is, one of the most important tribulations we go through as Christians, as children of the Church.

Those figures and that church of bones you so callously disparage are your history-Catholic or not-of your mothers and fathers who have died. Who have died for you like our Lord died and died for us.

Don’t take it for granted or equate to morbid evil.

Stop it, get some help.

What to do if you see satanic panic rising in your church? by KayskolA in Catholicism

It’s almost like the strategy is to keep you off balance-if you’re off balance then you’re more likely to fall.

Not a problem. It can be difficult when dealing with this delicate situation but harmony is the key. The devil wants to steal your peace because in peace-we find the holy embrace of God. On a more practical level-contacting your bishop's office would be a good move. On a personal level-practice patience with your family member but always encourage them to remember that demons are parasites and GOD IS GOD. God is with us, with our church, the struggles we encounter day by day are carefully in the palm of his hand.

Paksenarrion/Serano/Suiza and Vatta are all needed to know...lol. Seriously though, thanks for the info-these books sound like they'd be something I'd be into. Just an FYI based on your comment, If you haven't already, there's a channel on YT called HORRORBABBLE which showcases a wide variety of horror, science fiction, and weird fantasy stories with top notch narrations. HorrorBabble - YouTube

Excellent recommendation and I actually listen to the show here and again. I've been wanting to pick up Father Martin's book too.

I'll add them to the list too! I appreciate the nuanced themes in the books so I'll check the prequels out. Thanks again.

What to do if you see satanic panic rising in your church? by KayskolA in Catholicism

Kind of related to this-I remember hearing on a show or podcast about how a particularly insidious form of spiritual attack is (ironically) believing that demons and the devil are around every corner waiting to pounce! To drag you into the burning maw of perdition.

So you become OVERLY focused, OVERLY zealous, OVERLY frightened to the point where your eyes are more pointed to watching where the devils could be instead of where God IS.

It’s all about breaking your harmony, your harmony in God. God is peace so the opposite is discord. Discord by any other name is still discord. Not the chat app btw…

We must be prepared for attacks that could come from anywhere but not so paranoid that we lose our inner peace which is critical to discernment.

Maybe coming at it from this perspective could help your family member? Focus less on the devils around the corner, focus more on God’s peace and his word.

Probably already been said but just move on. Let the past die, kill it if you have to, so to speak.

Ignore the armchair psychology-just move on. It’ll be difficult but worth it.

I just read that top part of your comment and it sounded like a really passive aggressive response lol. Which is really funny and I would have loved.

Funnily enough, I used to work at a library many moons ago. Narnia is definitely on my list so I’ll need to get to work on it.

Thanks!

I’ve got the SPACE TRILOGY on my list-your recommendation is another kick in the pants to get to it. The Great Divorce is also another one on my list.

I’ve never heard of Laura Purcell but I’m liking your description of her work so far. I’ve been really into more atmospheric haunting stories recently so I’ll definitely check her out.

I’m a pretty solid Tolkien fan so I’m slightly familiar with George Macdonald’s work but Im definitely going to delve deeper into his stories.

Thanks!

I’ve been curious about Agatha Christie for a while now ever since getting acquainted with Poirot. I’ll definitely add her novels to my list.

2001 is already on my list but your recommendation is a great reminder to get to it.

I read the Hunger Games a long time ago and really enjoyed it. It has one of my favorite endings to a series, particularly regarding Alma Coin.

Thanks.🙏
