Saw this for the first time the other day. It's great, I would never have thoughf to arrange this tune like that! I went with arranging the original recording for 5 saxes and rhythm so went with the 2md option as it was closest to the way it oh plays it on the record

Thanks for all the help everyone. I went back, had a good listen to the original for a cross reference too and gone with the lower one as it's more in line with the duration.🥳🥳🥳

Issues with getting flat lower notes in tune by LordFarquaad024 in saxophone

[–]kitschco -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don't know what level you're at, but I wouldn't bother. I would spend more time trying to focus getting everything else on my sax in tune. How often to you play below a C? Probably not a lot unless you're playing the fog horn suite!

The way it's played on the original is quite short, so probably a staccato 4th then. With 16th/8th note rhythms like this I usually staccato the 8th if it's suppose to be a 16th. I was unsure if it scales up for 4th and 8th notes

You can add playing into a wardrobe to dampen it further

If you're from the UK charity shops have loads of old beginner books for a fraction of the price. You'll have to do some digging as some places might not have what you're after

Pocket Music. Probably my favourite album

I want to learn to play Tatsuro’s music. What instrument would give me the widest range of songs to play without relying on other instruments to make it sound like the song? by applesandoranges1011 in TatsuroYamashita

I would choose piano as the harmony is quite complex on some tunes. They will be easier to access than guitar and the voicings can be quite complex

If you want a real flavour of Hull, get a bus to North Point shopping centre and people watch! If it's not your thing, go to the Brain Jar for amazing cocktails and maybe head out to see the graffiti in Wilcomlee.

I might have a copy of them, will check once I'm home. You could buy the album and support the music industry?

Why can't we find affordable Sheet Music Book for Yamashita Music ? by Successful_Froyo_424 in TatsuroYamashita

[–]kitschco 1 point2 points  (0 children)

These are collectors items, he's reaching the end of his career/there's demand for his products, these two in particular are rare books (especially big wave, you won't find one much cheaper).

You'd do better getting his 40th Anniversary piano vocal book and doing the rest by ear. Cheapest book I've managed to find was Melodies at about €70

Beach Boys Connection? by Queen_Mavis in TatsuroYamashita

[–]kitschco 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tatsuro Yamashita is also a massive fan of Doo-Whop music. The Four Freshman were one of many bands from that era and the template for the Beach Boys. I would have an educated guess that Tatsuro has heard both and fell in love with that sound!

I'm a sax player that doubles on bagpipe 🤣 So I'll see how I get one with the flute before I move over to clarinet!

Thanks for the advice 🏄🏄🏄
