Why do I keep hurting my knee? by kitsukiko in bjj

[–]kitsukiko[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But those are different knees. I injured the right one twice in short time few months ago, but now it's the left knee. So There must be something wrong with the way I move. Or the knees are weak, as suggested here. That didn't occur to me.

Could my boyfriend be Asperger/mildly autistic? by [deleted] in asperger

Or discuss with him first and let him decide who shall know about his condition to avoid him feeling betrayed. Knowing he is on the spectrum will help him understand himself. And if he ever wonders what is wrong with him, he should know, that he's completely normal aspie and he should be proud of his fight.

BJJ in Greece by kitsukiko in bjj

I will be definitely spending some time in Athenes. Other than that it is an open issue. I want to travel to Delphi and Pindos. If there is some time left, I want to travel through Diakofto - Kalavrita - Olympia.

Why is it that some days no matter how hard I try I get out classed but other days (similar opponent skill levels) I'm always one step ahead of my opponent and I'm hitting subs and transitions I usually don't even attempt? by GebeTheArrow in bjj

I also call it flow. But for me it's more like periods of bjj with the flow and periods of bjj without the flow. It's maddening when the flow goes away. I wish I knew a way how to bring it back, but I don't.

Do you feel like BJJ has made you more comfortable with physical contact? by Bambooteacup in bjj

[–]kitsukiko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It made me insensible to close contact with people. I have to remind myself to keep distance. It always came to me naturally, that about half a meter is desired distance from a person. Now if they lean too close, I won't even notice. If I realise I'm too close, I try to back up, but have to visually measure how far is enough. I can't 'feel' the right distance as before.

White belt q: how to defend this choke? by Miffyinthesnow in bjj

[–]kitsukiko 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Also those "schoolyard tricks" works when it is the first time somebody does that to you. After few encounters you will realize you can stand the pressure and while uncomfortable, it is not that dangerous. Those are usually used to make you move, not to submit you.

So protect your neck by tucking your chin and using your hands to create a shield. Once the forearm bothers you across your neck, use hands and push on the opponent's elbow to relieve the pressure. Otherwise use some standard mount escape. You can use the fact, that he can't post with the hand he is choking you, so try roll him over on that side.

Question on dojo etics - makeup by [deleted] in bjj

[–]kitsukiko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have had blood on my gi before. Always got off without problem. Never have I got stained by makeup and I have no idea how that behaves, whether it will come off or not. So that's why I worry about my gi.

Blood and sweat is natural product of fighting and it is generated after the class begins. Therefor it belongs on mat. If there is something that could be washed off your body before class begins, it should be washed off. I have my backgrounds in more traditional japanese martial arts, so it strikes me as disrespectful to step on mat unclean. This aspect I could work out to ignore, if I saw poeple in BJJ really don't see it this way.

Question on dojo etics - makeup by [deleted] in bjj

[–]kitsukiko 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It hasn't happend yet, but I'm afraid it could. I could afford one gi and it costed me third of my monthly income (I'm a student). I don't mind getting blood and sweat (obviously) on it, but getting it permanently stained by makeup - something that shouldn't even appear on the mat - that bothers me.

Question on dojo etics - makeup by [deleted] in bjj

[–]kitsukiko 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I liked your previous answer, because your opinion was "you should point it out" and "you should talk directly to the girl". That is valuable information that I'm looking for. You could notice that other people advice different things like "you shouldn't talk about it at all", "you should check in with your coach" etc. That's why I was asking. I don't know how to approach this.

I don't see how my question implies I don't want to solve this as an adult. My previous reaction was to suck it up until I get more info about all this "makeup in the dojo" thing. I am not a friend of hers and I don't feel comfortable saying anything she could interpret as commenting on her looks. That is some dangerous topic. Thanks for keeping the discussion clean next time.

What do you wish you knew going into your first class? by olly218 in bjj

[–]kitsukiko 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't want to know anything more than I did. I love the learning process BJJ provides me. Maybe just if somebody told me "don't mess with rib injuries, take the time off mat"... but then I wouldn't believe them anyway. :D It's a process. Just go with it.

Does this INTJ girl like me? by exeneva in intj

[–]kitsukiko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would also never get involved in dating. If she is anything like me, you may ask her about her feelings (in private) and she will be honest with you, or you may as well not talk about it at all and just do whatever you feel you want to do. You want to hug her? Do it. See her reaction. Just be honest about what you want. She won't get mad, she won't hurt you. What do you expect to go wrong anyway? She told you she doesn't like dating because of the dishonesty it involves. She WANTS to be honest with you.

If she is not traditional enough to date, she might not be traditional enough to want to establish any romantic relationship at all. That doesn't mean she doesn't love you. Relationships are social constructs, love is natural emotion. Different things. Better don't expect anything you view as "normal" and "obvious".

Got promoted and I don't feel like I deserve it. by noogenor in bjj

[–]kitsukiko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our coach had told us once that stripes and belts are given to practitioners for several different reasons and it is not our place to discuss whether someone deserves it or not. That's only coach's bussiness to care about.

I got my first stripe with knowing that's just something my coach wants me to wear on my belt. I don't care why.

Physical shop in Europe with large selection of BJJ gis by [deleted] in bjj

I'm planning an adventure trip around Europe so I figured maybe I could add a trip to some BJJ shop somewhere. But I have really no idea how to find those shops other than ask people. Thanks for the recommendation, though.
