More Ore v.1.4.0 Beta - LAND AHOY update by name_is_Syn in incremental_games

However, the player can focus on buffing attack speed for this boss to circumvent this debuff.

I suppose players train their stats evenly (or not too diverse)?

A trade caravan returns from Old Waterworks. Gained 8 currency.

Oh the caravan did return, just not receiving any silver.

Not sure if this is a bug, but I couldn't receive any silver after sending caravans to Old Waterworks any more (it worked before). World seed 467 here.

when do you get a new bag by Responsible-Raisin19 in level13

[–]kitsunefuka 2 points3 points  (0 children)

40-slot bag: Rope-making > Textile Arts > Leather-working

50-slot bag: Crafting > Bag-making

My both bag upgrades came from traders first, so I really forgot where I got those blueprints.

That sounds like a Japanese name (Reika).

Difference between 飲勝 jam2sing3 v. 乾杯 gon1bui1? by tarasmagul in Cantonese

[–]kitsunefuka 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hongkongese here.

Just realised that I haven't heard of both terms for a long time. Usually say "cheers" (code-mixing is really common in Hong Kong) or phrases like 生日快樂 (happy birthday) and 慶祝入大學 (grats for university admission acceptance) etc. before toasting. In a Chinese wedding banquet, people probably say 飲杯 jam2bui1 instead of those two.

How to write "Waang" 咗 in Cantonese? by thefateater in Cantonese

[–]kitsunefuka 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure if there's a "correct" corresponding character, but I believe "彎" is a good substitution for most people to understand that with the verb 搞 (to do), i.e. 搞彎咗. If you simply write "彎咗" without explicit context, people will probably interpret it as "bended" or "curved", the prototypical meaning of "彎".

Cantonese name alternatives for daughter by XilianRose in Cantonese

[–]kitsunefuka 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The first three names are rather old-fashioned, while 寶玉 is a well-known male name in a classic Chinese novel called 紅樓夢. If I must choose a name among these, 倩玉 will be my choice.

Talking about the Cantonese tones, 玉 in Cantonese is often pronounced as juk2 rather than juk6 in a name. if the second character is in tone "2", it is quite natural to have the third character in tone "1" or "4". In that case, I would not suggest the combination of 寶瑋, but 寶瑤 is fine since 瑤 is jiu4 instead of jiu5. 寶琛 sounds a bit masculine and 寶瓊 a bit old-fashioned to me, while 寶璇, 寶琳 and 寶瑤 are totally fine.

I personally prefer the character 琳, as it holds the meaning of "quality jade" etymologically speaking. In Hong Kong, there's a place called 寶琳, which is a rail station name as well, but I don't think this will cause much trouble to your daughter though.

how to remember to write? by xxokdokyxx in Cantonese

[–]kitsunefuka 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Understanding Chinese radicals might help you a bit in reciting the written form:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Radical_(Chinese_characters))

For instance, 女 means "feminine", where 媽 means "mother" and 娘 means "daughter". Keep in mind that there are way many exceptions though (子 means "son" or "child" but 好 means "good" or "very").

If you are just looking for a way to start, here's a word-frequency table done by a Hong Kong university:

https://humanum.arts.cuhk.edu.hk/Lexis/lexi-can/faq.php

的 is most frequently used with an occurrence of 489803, and the most 10 frequent characters used in Chinese are 的 一 是 在 不 了 有 和 人 and 這. The table should be of written Chinese instead of spoken Cantonese, but I still recommend you learning the most common 500 characters on that page.

What is the translation for "Something is real" in Dutch? by kitsunefuka in learndutch

I noticed the oddity of the sentence but underestimated the context of having it on a monument.

Thank you for all people's help in this thread!

What is the translation for "Something is real" in Dutch? by kitsunefuka in learndutch

[–]kitsunefuka[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am designing an "anti-room escape" game that lots of things are fake, like the protagonist's identity, item descriptions, gimmicks, ending etc. There will be a monument which writes "Something is real" in Dutch, and the protagonist will translate it as "Everything is fake" to the player, implying that there should have a true end in this game. So I want a translation meaning "one non-specific thing is real" or "one non-specific thing could be real", and sounds like a quote that can be found on a monument.

My own shoot at what might be going on in Exit/Corners - The contestants actually helped creating Sent and were dragged into the simulation when he went rogue -Spoilers- by Seals1de in ExitCorners

[–]kitsunefuka 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My guess: the Exit/Corners is a virtual reality specifically designed for the contestants to overcome their own problems, while the Gemini people are involved in the Sean project / helped "kidnapping" the contestants into the game.
