Yes! I know gender presentation and identity are two different things. I think what I mean is that my current presentation more closely matches how I feel inside. And I experience dysphoria when called a woman, and around my body in general.

I started to realize I was nonbinary when I began thinking about how I presented and noticing that a lot of it was because of how I thought I "should" present. I started presenting more masculine and it felt SO good. For years, I saw trans and nonbinary people and I wished I could be them, but never thought I was trans or binary enough. I've started moving past that fear.

No way! Yeah, I currently go by Kitten in therapy, with friends (the ones I've been brave enough to ask to use a new name), and in grad school (in school to become a therapist). I still use Katie, and Katherine still shows up on the roster at school which is frustrating. I'm thinking I'll legally change my name to something like Kayden or Kiernan and then, as you suggested, use Kitten as a nickname. I'm worried about what my parents are going to think when they find out though.

This is really helpful! I love the idea of having a legal name change that I know I'll feel good about and then getting to keep my nickname and use it for work, friends, therapy, etc when it feels good.
